School Access

Students are expected to enter and to exit the school using their designated doors. Students meeting siblings or parents must arrange to meet them outside of the school. If parents are detained and arrangements are made with the office, students are asked to wait in the office for pickup.

Parents and visitors use the front doors to enter the school and ring to be admitted to the school. Our school is equipped with a closed circuit camera. To assist us in ensuring the safety of all students, all doors will be locked during the day. There is a buzzer on the wall beside the front door to request entry into the school. Once you ring it, we will be happy to invite you in through the office area. All exterior entrance/exits will be locked after classes start for the safety and security of our students.

After School

Students are expected to go home promptly at 3:25 PM when they are dismissed. Parent support in this regard is greatly appreciated. By clearing the school grounds immediately after school, incidents between children are minimized and students who are not picked up can be quickly identified. Once they have gone home, children may return to the school grounds after 4:00 PM and are then under their parents’ care. We ask your co-operation in reinforcing these rules.

Emergency Information

The school maintains an emergency information file for each student. This file is updated every school year from the Student Demographic Form that comes home on the first day of school. It is vital that we have current information in the unlikely event of an emergency. Please change the form as appropriate and return it to the school as soon as possible.

Should you have a change in contacts, address, home or business phone throughout the year, please advise the school immediately.

Custody Agreements

It is the custodial parent's responsibility to see that the school has the most recent order governing the custody/access of the student. The school is bound to operate under the most current documentation held at the school. Please be aware that an access parent cannot visit with their child at school. The school will not take children out of classes to visit or speak on the telephone with access parents nor will they ever provide supervised access. The school will accept instructions from the parent who has day-to-day care and control (Custodial Parent).

All CBE schools are required to practice lockdowns in the same way that we practice fire drills. The procedures for lockdowns are developed with the Calgary Police Service and are part of each school’s Emergency Response Plan. If you have questions about lockdown drills or lockdown procedures, please contact your principal.

Evacuation Procedures

In the event that the school needs to be evacuated for any reason, all staff have been trained according to CBE standards. All schools have a primary and a secondary evacuation site. In the event of an evacuation, you will receive an email, phone or SMS notification from the school.
