Learning Commons at the CBE

Today’s learners cannot imagine life without the internet and supporting technology. The concept of the traditional library is changing to include technology, online tools and spaces for collaboration and exploration.

Learning Commons / Library

Our Learning Commons

Our Learning Commons contains many valuable resources which enrich the learning of our children. We have, and are building upon, an excellent selection of books and magazines to help students with the curriculum and to practice their recreational reading skills. Through the use of computers, books and other resources, students are able to find their own answers to questions and become independent learners and information literate citizens.

Book Bags Protect Our Resources

It is important that materials borrowed from the library during the year be returned in good condition. In order to do this each student will be given a plastic book bag to put their books in. This bag must be used to transport the books to and from school. We also ask that books be kept in a safe spot at home, away from young siblings, pets, crafts and food.
There will be a replacement charge for any bags and/or books that are lost or damaged.

Our Borrowing Guidelines

Students do not have regular days or times to return their library books, nor are they restricted in the number of books they can withdraw. Students borrow and return books as they finish them, throughout the day. If books are borrowed for over two weeks, students must renew the book so that we can be sure to have lots of good books available and being used. If books are lost, parents are expected to pay the replacement cost of items taken from the Learning Commons.

Our Learning Commons is a hub of learning within our school. In order to supplement the important learning that happens within the Learning Commons we encourage families to utilize the free library cards provided by Calgary Public Library.
