Principal's Message

Dear Scarlett Community,

Please note that this week's forcasted weather will require careful planning before leaving home, with projected temperatures of minus thirty (-30 °C) or colder (once wind chill is considered). To prepare, it is recommended people dress in layers, including a base layer, an insulating layer, and wind and waterproof outer layer. Students should also keep an eye out for signs of frostbite and hypothermia.

With the winter break fast approaching at the end of this week, let's celebrate the wonderfully active school we have here at Dr. E.P. Scarlett. December is a busy month with so much to enjoy! Our Drama production, Romeo and Juliet held their last performance of 2022 last night with another sold out crowd, and on December 7th our choir and musicians gave the most glorious evening of music performed at the beautiful Mount Royal University Taylor Center for the Performing Arts at the Bella Theatre.

In the Athletics world, our Lancer swim team had 31 swimmers compete at the City-wide championships on Nov. 29th. Our team won cities in the Elbow Division.

We had two student wrestlers earn second place at Central Memorial and Lester B. Pearson tournaments. The season continues into the new year until March.

Our junior boys and girls basketball teams took part  in a tournament this weekend hosted by Central Memorial High School.

Our Model UN had 21 delegates at Western Canada Model UN Western with 7 of our students receiving recognition.

Our Robotics team competed at William Aberhart this weekend.

So proud of our Lancers!  Go Lancers Go!

This week, I want to draw your attention to our spirit events to remind student to have some fun……

  • Dec 19-Winter Wear Day
  • Dec 20-Christmas Karoke, dress up as your favourite Christmas character
  • Dec 21-Cozy Jammies Day
  • Dec 21-Healthy Hunger Lunch –Extreme Pita
  • Dec 22-Ugly Sweater Day

A reminder of our Holiday Hampers for Lancer Families in need. If you would like to contribute, please drop by your gift card donation to the main office.

The CCASA presentation (Calgary Communities Against Sexual Abuse) is now available online at https://calgarycasa.com.  The presentation overviews the topics of consent, sexual violence and available resources/ supports.

And lastly our greatest gratitude to the parents and families for donating their time and/or food items to the Dr. E.P. Scarlett annual potluck dinner. Our students and staff truly enjoyed every moment and every morsel.  It is always one of the most heart warming events of the year.  Thank you for your kindness!

In sincere appreciation,

Shari
