| Hello Dr. E. W. Coffin School families, We thank you for all your support this school year. We had an amazing year full of great learning and growth. Our theme this year was being curious. Whether the task was social, academic, or experiential, we wanted our students to generate good questions and pursue learning in a confident way. We had many incredible experiences that exhibited curiosity and are very proud of how our students progressed from pandemic conditions to experiences that are more typical of the engaged learning at Dr. E. W. Coffin School. We will miss our grade six students, however we know they are all well prepared for the next step. As sad as we are to see our 6s depart, we are very excited to welcome our new Kindergarten students next year. We had a fun orientation day where our new students were able to watch parts of our Sports Day and it was easy to see how excited and ready they are to start their educational journey at Dr. E. W. Coffin School. A huge thank you to our School Council for their support. Your care, flexibility, and great ideas have been very helpful to our students and staff. We also appreciate all your support throughout the summer keeping our gardens healthy. Our community will look forward to our first event of the year with a Welcome Back BBQ on September 21st 2023, which is also our Meet the Teacher night. More information on this event will be communicated in September. Our first School Council meeting is set for September 12th at 7pm in our Learning Commons. We also have a staffing update to share with you. Ms. Meredith Boyer has accepted a new learning leader position at Rosedale School. We thank Ms. Boyer for all her amazing work at Dr. E. W. Coffin School. Ms. Boyer is an incredible teacher and innovator. She brought a caring focus and a strategic mind to our division 1 program and was the genesis of our Fresh Air Friday program. We will miss her and know she will continue to make important contributions in her new school. Given we had a staff member depart our school, we posted for a new teacher. We had many qualified applicants and are happy to welcome Mrs. Sarah Stilborn as a permanent teacher in our Dr. E. W. Coffin School faculty. Mrs. Stilborn knows our school quite well in her time covering temporary contracts. Mrs. Stilborn is a champion of early literacy, a caring colleague, and has a dedication to student learning that involves whole-child development. We feel fortunate to have Mrs. Stilborn and our staff are so pleased to continue working with her.
I hope you all have a restful and healthy summer. The school is closed for the summer months and our teachers and office staff are away from the school until August 28th, 2023. The first day of school is Thursday, August 31st, see you then! Take care, Chris Hooper, EdD Principal
