Learning Commons at the CBE

Today’s learners cannot imagine life without the internet and supporting technology. The concept of the traditional library is changing to include technology, online tools and spaces for collaboration and exploration.

Learning Commons / Library

Welcome to Our Learning Commons

Open the entire school day, the Dr. E. W. Coffin School learning commons is a flexible and learner-centred physical and virtual space for collaboration, inquiry, play and imagination. It is available to individuals and groups to use for multiple, often simultaneous, purposes. Students have access to and instruction in the effective use of print and digital resources with teacher support for learning and technology.

The Dr. E.W. Coffin School learning commons includes a library that provides an opportunity for students, staff, and parents to check out books. There is a variety of fiction and nonfiction at reading levels from early reading to Grade 6, and a few beyond. Books are circulated and catalogued using the CBE’s automated Symphony program.

Borrowing & Exchanges

All classes are scheduled for weekly book exchange times. Students have an opportunity to check out books during their regulary scheduled time. Parents are also welcome to borrow books from the library. All students are allowed 2 books at a time.

If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Kidd at local 2243.
