Dear DGS Families,
I don’t know about you, but I am definitely enjoying having our students in the building for their first full week since mid-September! Our students continue to be out in the community using land-based learning as a means to deepen their ties to our Science, Social Studies, PE and Health Programs of Study. Time spent in our community is always positive for us!
Planned Fire Drill
Today marks our second planned fire drill for the school year. Students did a good job of evacuating the building and carefully returning to class in a safe and orderly fashion. Safety is always priority one!
Demographic Verification Forms
Gentle reminder to complete any outstanding forms. These are legally required to be completed annually.
Spectators at InterSchool Athletics
Please note that our students are welcome to attend home games at Dr. George Stanley School. We have been delighted with our student crowd behaviour. We greatly appreciate having fans who are such a positive addition! For “Away” games, it is important that only student athletes are in attendance with coaches and parents.
Away for the Day
Students are doing a great job of leaving their mobile devices in their lockers. The expectation continues to be that phones are not in pockets, bags or with a student between 8:30-2:55, including lunch hour. We offer a wide array of spaces and activities for students to gather with friends, take a break from the action or get to know new people. Phones found on students will be returned through the main office.
Forgot your Lunch?
As a reminder, Skip the Dishes, Door Dash, etc, ordering and delivery are not welcome at Dr. George Stanley School. If a student is unable to retrieve a forgotten lunch from home, we do have emergency food in the main office and we are happy to help. We just aren’t resourced to manage additional deliveries in the main office, and we can’t be responsible for misdirected food. Orders will be returned to the delivering restaurant. Your help with this is greatly appreciated.
IPP Communication
By October 21, parents with students who have an IPP (Individual Program Plan) will have received the initial IPP and an invitation to discuss it with your child and their teacher(s). If, by that date, you have not received the IPP and/or an invitation to discuss it, please contact your child’s homeroom teacher or the main office.
Lunch Supervision Registration
All grade 6 students that stay at school for lunch should be registered to do so via your MyCBE account. For more information: cbe.ab.ca/programs/noon-supervision/Pages/default.aspx
Lost & Found
Please encourage your child(ren) to have a look through the lost & found items for anything that belongs to them; as we are seeing a growing number of items there. Thank you!
Volunteering
All volunteers need current forms completed and Police Information Checks, which we are happy to help with in the main office. Please complete the attached Annual Volunteer Registration Form and read the attached information on Police Clearances.

Student Health Updates
It is important for the school to have the most up-to-date information regarding any of our students with medical conditions, taking medications, allergies, etc. This is not just for students that are new to Dr. George Stanley or to the CBE; these are for all students with medical conditions to complete every school year.
Please review the attachments, if this is applicable to your student, please complete the forms and return them to the school, via email drgeorgestanley@cbe.ab.ca or dropped off at the main office. Thank you for helping us keep the students safe and healthy.
