Wednesday Principal Update - May 17, 2023

Dear DGS Families,

This is an action-packed week for staff and students! We’ve now successfully completed Part A of the Grades 6 and 9 Provincial Achievement Tests for English Language Arts. A gigantic and heartfelt “thank you” to everyone who volunteered to scribe for students- your support of our students’ learning means the world to our kiddos! Grade 9s are currently on day two of their Eco-School Adventure and are having a terrific time. The Basketball Semi-Finals have been postponed; and new dates will be shared once available.

Registration for our Evening of Clay and Construction for Parents opened Monday morning. There are still spaces available, if you are interested, click HERE!

On Friday morning, our Grade 8s completed their hour-long run in support of elevating the significance of the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (May 5), also known as Red Dress Day. In total, they ran 770km, which they later realized symbolizes the length of the Highway of Tears. So far, we have had over 30 items from the wish list donated in support of the Awo Taan women’s shelter and healing lodge. We will be accepting cash donations and Wish List Items until May 19, 2023. The wish list notes that items geared to adolescents are especially welcome.

Transportation fees and service levels for the 2023-24 have been announced.  Families can now register using MyCBE . If your family is considering using transportation services for the next school year, you need to register by the June 11 deadline to ensure yellow school bus service for the first day of classes in September. There is no financial obligation for registration; families have until the fall to cancel without a fee. Registering early means better route planning and allows the CBE to communicate the need for additional stops or busses to our service providers.

As we head into the Victoria Day Long Weekend, we’re sending you all warm wishes for an adventure filled time with family and friends!

High School Musical Jr

Students and staff have been choreographing, rehearsing, building and memorizing their lines for our June 1 evening performance of High School Musical Jr. Tickets are $5 each and will be available at the door, only. (No pre-sales). Doors open at 6:30pm, performance at 7:00pm. We can’t wait to see you there!
