Wednesday Principal Update - June 7

Dear DGS Families,

June has been actioned packed so far, and the next few weeks promise to be just as exciting. Last Thursday night, the cast and crew of High School Musical Jr. absolutely rocked their performance. We want to thank everyone who was involved in the production, and we really want to thank our families who juggled all kinds of Spring activities to accommodate rehearsals. Our whole school community really enjoyed their final two performances on Friday morning. On Monday, we had student athletes participate in the CBE’s inaugural adaptive track meet and today, we sent about 110 student athletes to Foothills Athletic Park for our Divisional Track Meet. Again, without the support of coaches, parents and families, these opportunities just wouldn’t be possible. Grade 7’s leave for Camp Next Week, we welcome our future Grade 6’s so they can experience an afternoon in our building and next Friday is our morning Grade 9 Farewell Ceremony.

The month of June is National Indigenous History Month. At our staff meeting yesterday, we reflected as a whole staff on our 2022-2023 Truth and Reconciliation Commitment and decided on our 2023-2024 commitment. We are looking forward to sharing our commitment with you in our next Principal Update.

I want to take the time to thank our School Council for organizing An Evening of Clay and Construction for parents. In particular, huge thank-you’s to Mr. Bhandari, Ms. Thomas, Ms. Hart, Ms. Cardwell and Mr. Rushton for planning, teaching and supporting this creative event for parents. As adults, it’s important to take the time to try something new, get messy and see school through the eyes of your kiddos!

Are you missing things from your house that were used as costumes and props in the musical? We have them! Please remind your kiddos to pick up things they may have left in the drama room by the end of the day on Monday June 12- after that, all remaining items will be donated to charity.
