Wednesday Principal Update - June 14

Dear DGS Families,

The days are warm, the nights are cool and we are working our way carefully through the month of June. Last Thursday’s night of music with our Band Program was entertaining, well-attended and a perfect way to cap off our Fine Arts Season.

We are pleased to announce that DGS placed 2nd overall in our divisional track meet, with many, many top three finishes in individual events. One of the things we appreciate is the number of multi-sport athletes who try new skills and events every interschool athletics season. Next year marks the first year Basketball and Volleyball switch places in the interschool line-up. We will start with Soccer, Cross-Country and Basketball right off the hop in September.

This week, our Grade 7's are at Camp Chief Hector, we hosted our new Grade 6's for next year on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon and we say “Farewell” to our Grade 9s on Friday morning.

In the Fall, we will see full implementation of the ELAL (English Language Learning and Literacy) and Math curriculum at the Grade 6 level, and a continuation of the Physical Education and Wellness for Grade 6 as well. The CBE has selected MathUP as the preferred resource for Grade 6 and DGS will be implementing MathUP as a part of a grant program Grades 7-9. MathUP is a Canadian online learning resource that provides professional learning for teachers, math activities for students, and math support documents for parents and guardians that offers multiple strategies to work towards math mastery for every student. More information related to implementation will be available in the Fall of 2023.
