Welcome to Dr. Gordon Townsend School, a unique school community within the Alberta Children’s Hospital (ACH) that engages and motivates our students during their stay. We are honoured and excited to partner with the outstanding Alberta Health Services (AHS) team. As a school, our collective goal is to continue to foster a school community where students are provided with opportunities to continue their studies to their highest potential.

Students are comprised of young people aged 5-19. These students are continuously admitted and discharged for various medical conditions by the medical teams at the ACH. Dr. Gordon Townsend has a variety of programs at our school that students are admitted into through our AHS partners. The school is on the CBE modified calendar to meet the various needs of the young people at the ACH. Each of the students remain connected to their community school and will transition back to this school or another appropriate placement as soon as they are medically able or are discharged by the medical team at ACH.

The teaching staff work hard to develop rich, personalized learning opportunities for all students. Each staff member brings a wealth of experience, knowledge and passion to their work. Working with our AHS partners all staff at Dr. Gordon Townsend have incredible capacity and expertise in developing and maintaining meaningful relationships with each and every child that we serve.
