CBE Schools Raise $163,886 for Cancer Research
Grades 7-12 Move to At-Home Learning Starting Monday, April 19
As we are not able to meet in person Dr. JK Mulloy has made a virtual open house for information regarding the TLC Program. Click here to view the video.
Welcome back, I hope you had a restful break! We are taking this opportunity to remind staff, students and parents of our increased COVID safety procedures & protocols. Some of these include increased hand washing and/or sanitizing, reminders to physical distancing as much as possible, and remaining with cohort groups whenever possible. Wearing nonsurgical medical masks has proven to be one of the most significant actions we can take to limit the spread of the virus to others as well as to protect ourselves from potentially catching the virus. As defined by AHS, non-medical face masks fit securely above the nose and below the mouth and allow for clear breathing. The information available to us can change (as we take our direction from Alberta Health), so please refer to Alberta Health website for the most up to date information about COVID in schools. We are also starting to make plans for staffing for next year and although we would love for all of our students to be staying with us next year, we know sometimes children will be changing schools due to a variety of reasons. If you know your child will be attending another school next year, due to a move or any other reason, we would really appreciate it if you could let the office know by June 1st. This will ensure we have the transfer process done so student records are ready to go at the end of June to their new school. If you find out after this date, that is fine too…just give us a call in the office and let us know. This is also the time of year that we start considering class lists and student placement for next year. We appreciate the trust that parents place in us to choose the class and teacher that will best support their child's learning needs. We consider the needs of all of our students when we create classes and we consider many factors when doing so. We strive for a balance of students in each class and try to fit students with classmates that will help them learn. We know that there may be times where parents have a wish for a particular learning environment for their student. If you have a request for next year's placement that is based on the learning needs of your child and not a request for a particular teacher, please submit this request via email to myself at email@example.com before June 1. We will consider the requests before creating the class lists but cannot guarantee that we can accommodate them all.Thank you very much to our CBE Hub families for providing responses to our CBe-learn survey as we had 100% response rate! In March, we asked parents/guardians whether they were planning to request a transfer for their child(ren) to attend CBe-learn for next school year (2021-22) to learn online full-time. The survey responses do NOT determine where the students will attend school. However, the results are already helping CBE to gauge interest levels and plan for the year ahead. If a student is interested in transferring to CBe-learn for next year, the parent/guardian must submit a transfer request by Friday, April 23, 2021. If your child transfers to CBE learn they will no longer be a student in the TLC program at Dr. J.K. Mulloy.Thank you to everyone who is modeling safety and respect in their “pick-up and drop-off" behaviours. Please drive with the safety of our students in mind. Our children are very careful observers and will imitate what they see adults doing! Walking through the parking lot is not permitted, even if children are accompanied by an adult. Please walk on the sidewalks at all times for safety! As we are largely a bussed school, the bus loading zone in front of the school is a No Stopping & a No Parking Zone. If you choose to park across from the school buses it is recommended that you escort your child across the road safely using the marked crosswalks. Please observe the parking bylaws by ensuring you are not parked or stopped on or within 5 metres of the crosswalks. Under no circumstances should a child be crossing in between the buses with, or without an adult. This is not only highly dangerous, it is also against the law. Please consider using our 'drop and go zone' at the top of the hill to the north of our parking lot. As the spring weather has arrived, please make sure that your child is dressed for the changing temperatures throughout the day. It is often still below zero in the mornings and each day for recess & lunch students are outside playing for 15 - 25 minutes. Dressing your child in layers is the best solution, as that way they are able to take off or put on a layer if they are too cold or too hot. Please take some time to label your child's uniform, as students often remove their cardigans or vests and if they are not labeled they can end up in our Lost & Found. Our students will be outside for recess even on rainy days, so if it expected to rain, please send your child to school in rubber boots and a rain jacket (& rain pants if they would like to play in the puddles & umbrellas are optional). For Parents/Legal Guardians of Grade 4 students, by now you will have received a letter from Alberta Education regarding the Alberta Education Assurance (AEA) survey (which replaces the former Accountability Pillar Survey). Your letter contains a Random Access Code (RAC) for completing the survey online and instructions for accessing the survey in other languages. Completing the survey online is the quickest way for Alberta Education to receive a completed response. Families can still choose to complete the survey on paper by requesting a copy from the System Assurance Branch directly (see contact information in your letter), or by contacting your principal. This year has been different. COVID-19 has meant new challenges. That is why it is more important than ever to hear from parents / legal guardians. Your voice will help shape the future of education in Alberta. If you have any questions, please contact the principal of your child's school. Please complete the survey by April 23, 2021. Keep an eye on the calendar for special events that are happening at our school. Events such as virtual assemblies and spirit days will be posted on the school website. Stay well,Anne MarkovichPrincipalDr. J.K. Mulloy School
