June 7, 2021

Dear Parents/Guardians,

It is June already and summer is just around the corner!

School Council:

One of our upcoming events is our final School Council meeting of the year June 10 at 6:30pm via TEAMs. School council meets monthly to discuss ideas, issues and priorities at the school. The Council is an essential part of the success of our school and is one way that parents can stay informed and involved. All parents are welcome to attend any and all meetings. Some parents may only be able to attend occasional meetings and even attending one meeting a year is appreciated. There are key positions that are filled each year by parents who are willing to commit to attend most months. We are currently still looking for parent volunteers to fill these 2 positions on the council - Volunteer Coordinator and Fundraising Coordinator so if you are able to help out, please contact the school and we will forward your names to Elizabeth our School Council Chair.

The meetings themselves are typically informal and can be a great chance to meet other parents and provide valuable input to make Dr. J.K. Mulloy the best possible school. Over the past number of years we have had a small but dedicated team of parents who have filled all of these roles and provided great input and we would really like to thank them for all that they do for us!  As a school, we know how strongly parents and families value education and our school and we would ask that you consider if you can commit one hour a month to help Dr. J.K. Mulloy continue to be the fantastic school we want for our children. If you have any questions about the meetings or what would be required, please don't hesitate to contact the school and we will have Elizabeth contact you.

Next Year

It is that time of year where we are eagerly anticipating many fun and exciting events for this school year and also starting to look ahead to the next school year.

Information about transportation registration for next year is available on the CBE transportation website, and the deadline for inclusion for first day of school service was Sunday June 6. Even if you missed this deadline, it is important that you pre-register as soon as possible, as it can take up to 6 weeks to process your transportation registration. It is also essential that your correct address is in our system in case of emergency. If you have moved over the course of the year, or know you will be moving before the start of the school year, please contact us in the office to ensure we have your current and correct address on file.

We are making plans for staffing for next year and although we would love for all of our students to be staying with us next year, we know sometimes children will be changing schools due to a variety of reasons. If you know your child will be attending another school next year, due to a move, or any other reason, we would really appreciate it if you could let the office know ASAP. This will ensure we have the transfer process completed, so student records are ready to go to their new school by the end of June. If you find out after this date, that's fine too. Just give us a call in the office and let us know. If you have applied for registration at a private or charter school but will not know if you have been accepted until closer to September, we would love to know that too.

This is also the time of year that we start considering class lists and student placement for next year. We appreciate the trust that parents place in us to choose the class and teacher that will best support their child's learning needs. We consider the needs of all of our students when we create class lists and we consider many factors when doing so. We strive for a balance of students in each class and try to fit students with classmates that will help them learn. We know that there may be times where parents have a particular wish for a learning environment for their student. If you have requested a specific learning environment for your child, we will consider the request before creating the class lists but cannot guarantee that we can accommodate it.

Kindergarten Orientation for the fall of 2021:

Kindergarten parents of children who were accepted into Dr. J.K. Mulloy for the fall of 2021, should have received a School Messenger message inviting them to our virtual information session to prepare for the fall. Due to ongoing Covid protocols at this time we are not able to host an in-person event this year. It is important that next year's kindergarten parents watch this pre-recorded session before attending the “live" question and answer period Thursday June 10th from 5:30 to 6:30 pm. This is a time to ask any general questions, if your family is new to the CBE Kindergarten program or TLC. If you have specific questions that are unique to your child's situation, these questions are better answered individually by contacting our office at 403-777-6640.

Upcoming dates:

As always, keep your eye on our website for important dates. The last day of uniforms is June 18. This allows for parents to replace outgrown items through our School Enhancement Society's used uniform swap/sale.  Report cards will be available online on the last day of school June 29, and if you have any questions teachers will be available via phone or TEAMs on June 30 from 9am to 2pm.

Our Hub teachers will be contacting their families to arrange for a way to say goodbye to their students on the last day of school, so keep an eye on your email for that. In-person students will of course have the opportunity to say goodbye in person as usual, and although we would normally have a short farewell for our departing grade 4 students, the teachers will make time for students to reflect on their time here at Dr. J.K. Mulloy. We are so very proud of the remarkable leaders that our grade 4 students have become. They have been fantastic role models for our younger students and we will certainly miss having them around next year! They are really a remarkable group of students and we wish them the best!

Preparing for the end of the year:

With all the back and forth between in-person and online learning this year, we ask that you please take an extra careful look around your house for any school owned items that may have inadvertently been missed when we returned to in-person in May. If you return these items to school via your child, it is a good idea to also send a message to your child's teacher so they can remind your child to check their backpack when they arrive at school.

This pandemic has made for an unusual school year and I thank you for your patience and understanding as we worked through all of the changes together!  We really do have the most amazing, dedicated parent group, and we appreciate all you have done to make this year a successful one despite the challenges!

I look forward to seeing you all in back at school the fall and hope you have a safe and relaxing summer! If your child is moving on from Dr. J.K. Mulloy, I wish you all the best in the future!

Principal
