School Attendance Line: 403-817-3548 (then press 1)

It is important that you call the school if your child is absent or arriving late.

There is a direct relationship between achievement and regular student attendance.  As outlined in the Alberta School Act, the responsibility for regular and punctual attendance, which is necessary for satisfactory school progress, lies with the student and parents/guardians.

Attendance is Taken Daily

If your child is late or going to be absent, it is the parent’s/guardian’s responsibility to notify the school. We must verify all absences, so the office will call or email if a child is not in class. If parents/guardians know that their child will be absent or late, please call the school office or leave a message on the attendance line (403-817-3548 and press 1) with details of the absence.

Students who miss class because they are absent are expected to connect with their teachers to review expectations for missed work and assignments.

Punctuality is an important attribute for future success.  It is a matter of courtesy to teachers and fellow students to arrive to school and classes on time. Students arriving late in the morning or at noon must check in at the office before going to class. Teachers will monitor students who are arriving late for class during class changes. Students with unexcused lates will be required to make up missed time at lunch or after school during homework hotel times.

Students, who have an appointment or need to leave before regular dismissal time, must sign out at the office. Permission to be excused from school can only be granted by the office upon request by a parent or guardian. Under no circumstances should students leave the school grounds during instructional hours without first obtaining permission from the office.

Students With Attendance Concerns

  1. Homeroom teachers will monitor student attendance and make contact with home by phone or email to inform parents of concerns. A plan for improvement will be discussed.
  2. If efforts made by the Homeroom or classroom teacher are not effective, a referral will be sent to administration. An administrator will meet with the student and parent to review attendance concerns and develop an AIP (Attendance Improvement Plan.)
  3. If attendance does not improve, a number of supports/interventions could be put in place. These could include conferences with CBE family school liaison supports or the CBE attendance officer. A referral to the Alberta Attendance Board will be made in cases where the supports put in place have not had a positive impact on attendance.

Extended Absences

It is important for parents to understand that extended absences from school can have a significant impact on student learning and achievement. Families who know their student(s) will be absent from school for greater than 5 days need to obtain an extended absence form from the office and consult with their teachers before leaving. Teachers may provide students with work to be completed prior to and/or while on vacation. This is dependent on many factors including: content that is being covered during the absence; student learning needs; availability of technology; length of absence, etc. Any arrangements regarding student work must be made with the teacher(s) well in advance of the planned vacation time. Students may be required to complete additional work and/or assignments upon their return.
