Learning Apps of the Month

March 2022

For the month of March, students will be practicing their hand-eye coordination, fine motor and switch activation skills to reveal photos or videos using the "TouchMe UnColor Pro" and "TouchMe PuzzleKlick Pro" apps.

• Both iPad apps allow students to reveal images from the photo library, or you can import your own photos and videos to be revealed.
• There are several settings that you can customize based on your student's preferences including colour, number of puzzle pieces, sound effects with each press, as well as swipe, switch or isolated finger touch activation.

For families who are looking for some fun e-book and activities to keep active minds busy and provide some learning opportunities, we have created a short list of Online E-Books and Activities resources. 

Learning Tasks

Learning simple life skills are great for everyone! One skill that is essential for young children is hand washing. If you wish to work on generalizing this skill at home, it is very helpful for your child. We have included Learning Tasks - How to Wash Our Hands, with visuals, to help support your child's learning. 

Technology for Learning | iPad & Tablet Apps

There is a vast selection of iPad and Android apps available for Special Education. Below is a selection of apps focusing on Cause & Effect, Sensory, Literacy, Math, Fine Motor Skills and Communication. Several of these apps may be personalized for student learning by adding their own photos, text, sound and video. You may find most apps online via Google Play and the Apple App Store. Some apps may be subject to a purchasing fee.

Sensory, Cause & Effect

• Light Box encourages students to explore touch gestures through 24 scenes which range from calm & immersive to loud & energetic. Wonderful colour, animation and sound. Numerous options are provided to customize visuals and simplify controls. Switch accessible.

Literacy

• ChooseIt! has literacy-based activities grouped under areas such as Listening Skills, Initial Sounds, Initial Letters, Initial Blends, Alphabet, Everyday Words and Tricky High Frequency Words. Each of these areas has between 20 to 40 activities. Targeted literacy skills range from the alphabet to initial sound sorts to word level activities. Within each activity, students have an option to choose the correct response from 2 to 4 items.
