Regular Program at the CBE

Even though most of our schools offer a regular program, no two are quite the same. All schools teach according to Alberta Education’s mandated curriculum, however a school’s focus, optional courses and school activities are as unique as every school.

Program, Focus & Approach

Homework

The CBE Administrative Regulation 3066 - Homework provides the guidelines for homework expectations for students within our system. It is expected that elementary students in Grades 1-3 will receive homework that does not exceed 5-10 minutes each night. It is expected that elementary students in Grades 4-6 will receive homework that does not exceed 20 minutes in length each night.

At Erin Woods School, homework will not be assigned on weekends or holidays. We will be sending more information home from each grade group team that outlines homework expectations and activities.

Enjoy homework with your child. The opportunity to read together and talk about the reading is invaluable and a memory your child will hold forever. Math facts can be practiced in a fun and engaging way by setting the table, making grocery lists, or finding any activity that allows children to understand math instead of just memorizing math. Our survey of parents demonstrated a variety of opinions about homework.  All students have access to books online through Bookflix and Trueflix.

Learning Support

Our curriculum content is mandated in the Program of Studies provided by Alberta Learning.

We strive to personalize learning. Learning strategies are differentiated and designed to honour individual student needs. In addition, a School Learning Team (SLT) exists to work with teachers and parents in this regard. The SLT includes the principal, the assistant principal, Learning Leader, and classroom teacher, Any questions parents have regarding their child’s learning should first be directed to the classroom teacher.
