Kindergarten News October 19-22.

See Hallowe'en dress up information under important dates below.

We had another busy week in kindergarten. We continued playing at centres this week Smart Board, puzzles, play-doh, house centre, the tub toys, the light table, sand centres and loose parts.  We are learning to make new friends and are excited to talk and share what we have drawn on the Smart Board, or created at the Lego centre or our elaborate structures at the light table.

I can follow directions and draw a picture of a black cat listening to art hub for kids. Next, I can add the word cat to my drawing.  I am learning to read!  In literacy we started reading the story The Rainbow Goblins.  I can make a prediction about the story before the ending is read to me.

Our morning message includes a word of the day.  This week’s words were: wonder, plan, flexible and surprise.  ( How many of our words can you use each day?)

We are learning how to identify words and track words in our morning poem.  Your child has a green poetry book to share with you each Friday with our poem of the week in it.  Please help your child track the words and share the poem with you.

Our poem this week was:

Hallowe’en Colors

 Orange,  orange

 Black,  black

 White, white

 Let’s look for colors,

 On Hallowe’en night.

I can draw pictures to illustrate words that I am learning to read:  night, look.

I can read my poem to a friend.

In math we are continuing to count forwards and backwards as well as recognizing two-part patterns on our calendar and using body parts.  We are also counting in French. We had fun playing at math centres this week!  See pictures below!

.

We went to the music room and had music this week.  Our music days are Tuesday and Thursday.  We also went to the gym and learned how to shake and make a huge tent out of the parachute. On Friday we had a “surprise” (our word of the day) when we were able to play at the playground.  We also went to look at our adopted tree outside and noticed that our tree was bare.  ( the leaves had all fallen to the ground!)

Ask your child to share something they liked about kindergarten this week.

  Important Dates:

Friday, October 29th  Students can dress up on the Friday if they choose to. We will not have any shared food at our Halloween celebration day.  Please send a snack with your child.
