¡Bienvenidos octubre!

We're sending you a quick note to start this week. At Eugene Coste, the last week of September was deeply focused on Truth and Reconciliation with each of our classes exploring themes related to belonging, feeling safe at school and connection to community. This work will continue throughout the year. I am deeply in awe of our students and their ability to make connections and ask thoughtful questions. A special note of gratitude to our grade 4 students, teachers Srta. Monica, Srta. Micah, music specialist Srta. Jenn and surprise violinist Srta. Cecilia for their dedication to creating one of our finest Orange Shirt Day Assemblies to date. This endeavour was led by students, with the guidance of teachers. Thank you to families who were able to join us. Some clips of the students' shadow-puppet retelling of Buffy St.Marie's storybook and song "Still This Love Goes On" are posted to several of our Instagram pages if you missed it and would like to take a look. You can visit @principalriquelme, @eugenecosteschool as well as all of our teacher pages for more sharing of our learning.

As we look towards this week, we are excited to take part in our Escuela Eugene Coste Terry Fox Run on Wednesday Oct 10. We will begin in the gym at 10:00 a.m. with a short presentation and warm-ups, and then our community will head outside for our run. All families are welcome to join. You may participate in the run/walk or simply cheer students on. Who are you running for? I am especially touched by our community's swift response to last week's call to donate to our fundraising page. Within less than a day, our $100 donation climbed to over $1000! We are currently sitting at $1865 of our $2235 goal. If you would like to donate, you can find our page at:  https://schools.terryfox.ca/31205
