Behaviour

The two school rules at Escuela Eugene Coste are:

  1. Play Safe
  2. Be Kind

Students at Escuela Eugene Coste work closely with their teachers and other supportive adults to remember to engage in “expected” rather than “unexpected" behaviour. We also support students' emotional self-regulation by referring to The Zones of Regulation. This helps students remember that when they are in the “green zone”, they are ready to learn and engaging in expected behaviour. Students in the “yellow” or “red” zones are escalating and require support to calm down. Students in the “blue zone” need support to re-energize to get back to being ready to learn. We work with students to develop a range of personal strategies to return to the “green zone” so that they are ready to learn, play safe and be kind to others.

When working with students that have encountered difficulty, we will engage them in a collaborative conversation where we will ask the child/ren what has happened, what they can do to make amends and what they can do better next time. Most issues can be resolved with the support of the classroom teacher and ideally, between students themselves.  For issues that are of greater severity and/or have occurred frequently, we will engage with parents through a phone call  and a “blue sheet” that documents the incident as well as what steps will be taken next. Parents are welcome to contact their child/ren’s classroom teacher or the administrative team anytime if they have concerns or to book a face to face meeting.
