Personal Belongings

Lost & Found

Students are advised to check the school's Lost and Found area for any items that may have been misplaced. Items not claimed will be donated. Over the course of the year we donate the lost and found 3 times:  Christmas break, easter break and in June.

Personal Property

Periodically teachers may have a special day where children are invited to bring personal items for sharing at school; those items will be safely secured in a classroom. We discourage students from bringing personal belongings not necessary for school. The school cannot assume responsibility for missing or broken personal items.

Should students have personal belongings removed by staff, students may be required to write a letter as a consequence, explaining why they were playing with the item at school. We ask you to support your child’s learning by helping him/her understand what should and shouldn’t be brought to school.

We respect your right to make decisions about giving your child a cell phone or other play items to use before or after school. Cell phones may be temporarily taken away if they are being used inappropriately during school hours. Please send a note to your child’s teacher should you decide to give your child permission to have any electronic devices at school. Please see our technology tools section for more information specific to electronics.

Bicycles, Scooters, Skateboards & Heelys

We certainly encourage active living practices with children such as riding a bicycle to school. Upon arrival at the school and for the safety of all students, cyclists are expected to walk bicycles on school grounds during school hours. When bicycles are brought to school they should be locked in the bicycle rack provided.

The school cannot be responsible for bicycles damaged or stolen while they are at school. In addition, safety regulations require that skateboards, roller blades and Heelys are not to be brought to school or used on school property.

Cellphones

Cellphones are an increasingly popular accessory for students and comfort for parents. Safety and privacy concerns require that cellphones be turned off during school hours.

Personal Electronic Devices

Our school has a Digital Citizenship plan and an Acceptable Use Policy that addresses the appropriate use of electronic devices at school. Students who disregard this policy will have that device confiscated and returned at the end of the day to either the student or his/her parent.
