Student Schedules

Student timetables for 2023-24 school year will be available on PowerSchool tomorrow, August 23rd.   Please review the timetable with your child.  Should there be an issue that needs to be addressed, use this link to request a course change:

FLHS – Non-Smoking Facility

Forest Lawn High School is a non-smoking/vaping facility including the property outside of the building. Should students choose to smoke/vape they must leave the school property to do so. Students who are caught vaping or smoking on property inside or outside of the schools may face discipline and/or have paraphernalia confiscated and/or a ticket issued by our school resource officer.

Drop-offs and Pick-up

Many of our students are dropped off and picked up. Directly in front of the school is a handicap and bus zone reserved for our yellow bus pick up. Please be aware of the bus zones in front of the school and refrain from parking in them during pick-up at the end of the day. Parents and guardians are encouraged to use 14th Avenue as an alternative street to meet their student for pick-up. Thank you.

Student Parking

Students who drive to school may park on the street in front of the school on 44th street or on 14th Avenue on the south side of the school. When parking students must obey all street parking signs.

Students Trespassing

Parent(s)/Guardian(s) & Students

Safety is of utmost importance to us at Forest Lawn High School and the Calgary Board of Education (CBE).  When students are where they are supposed to be, we can, with confidence, assure that they are under the supervision of an adult who has their well-being in mind.

High School administration teams across the city have experienced an increase in student trespassers on our properties in the 2022-23 school year.  This warrants a reminder that all schools in the CBE are considered to be closed campuses

Only students registered at our schools are allowed in our buildings, on our adjacent grass areas, sports fields, and parking lots.  Additionally, Forest Lawn High School students are not to invite students from other schools to our building and adjacent property for any purpose, unless it is an approved activity supported by administration.  Violations of this rule may result in disciplinary action including suspension or action from Calgary Police.

Parents/Guardians are asked to reinforce this message with your child/children.  Please refer to the following Administrative Regulations for supporting documentation:

  • AR 6031 – Safe and Secure School Environments
  • AR 5002 – Responsibilities of Parents
  • AR 1029 – Operations of a school, section 3
  • Alberta Education Act – Section 31 – Student Responsibilities

We want to thank our students and families for your part in keeping our school a safe place to learn for all of our community.

Sincerely,

Matt Fell, Principal

Forest Lawn High School

INFORM | FLHS Fire Alarm Today

Dear Parents and Guardians,

At Forest Lawn High School we are committed to the safety and security of our students and staff. Today at 8:29am, in one of our stairwells a fire sensor was triggered by smoke and our fire alarm was activated. The smoke that caused the sensor to go off is undetermined at this time.

Students and staff were required to evacuate the building until the Calgary Fire Department deemed the school safe for re-entry at 8:38am. With the extreme cold temperatures this morning, some staff and students may have been outside without the appropriate clothing for the 9 minutes it took for the Calgary Fire Department to respond. Should the evacuation had taken a longer time, we do have alternative emergency procedures in place to evacuate to our alternative sites of Jack James and Ernest Morrow School. Administration was considering contacting and using the evacuation sites if it would have taken longer to re-enter the school.

We would like to thank all of our staff and students for safely exiting the building this morning under these extreme weather conditions and following direction of admin and the Calgary Fire Department.

If  you have any questions or concerns, please contact the schools main office to talk with admin.
