Sports Performance

With the increasing demands on sports today, this course will focus on the development of an individual’s fitness as it relates to improving performance in sport. Topics of study include: aerobic training, strength training, flexibility training, agility training, power training, speed training, nutrition, hydration and goal setting.

All levels of Sports Performance are extremely rigorous and physically demanding courses and should only be requested by students desiring high performance levels of physical fitness.

Sports Performance 10 - 5 credits

The purpose of the Sports Performance curriculum is to provide student athletes an opportunity to learn a wide variety of knowledge, skills, and attitudes that support the maximization of physical, social, cultural and emotional potential through sporting endeavors. Through a combination of theory and practical exposure to areas of sports science, students enrolled in the course will be introduced to the field of sports performance.
Prerequisite: None

Sports Performance 20 - 5 credits

At the advanced levels, students learn the importance of proper training principles, sport psychology, goal setting, and tracking personal development. These courses continue to build on the material taught in previous courses and are a blend of theory and activity.
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Sports Performance 10 and Teacher recommendation required.

Sports Performance 30 - 5 credits
