This week was “un poco frio/ a little cold". Thank you to parents for ensuring their children were ready to meet the weather challenges by having all their winter gear on. As students did not go outside, for the most part, this week, students ate their meals first and on the second half, took part in a variety of options within their classroom, for example, science video, chatting/socializing (Covid measures in place), drawing, and other activities. Students were very respectful of their environment and each other. Muchas gracias estudiantes!
friendly reminder that you will have access to report cards next week through
Power School. Please see the dates and instructions in this week's Sabes Que to
access report cards. If you have any comments or questions, please email or
book a time to speak with your child’s teacher to discuss their progress
report. Additionally, today you will be receiving via email your child’s
classroom teacher’s Curriculum Newsletter for February to June 2021. The
document will outline what students will be learning for all subject areas
during that timeframe. At the very top of the document, you will find a
link to the Alberta Program of Studies grade overview as well as links to all
subject areas for your child’s grade.
I have been informed by Lifetouch that we will have class pictures this year at no extra cost. We have chosen February 24 for this to take place. The pictures will be taken in their classroom cohorts, and staff and students will need to continue to adhere to AHS and CBE guidelines and wear their masks. Perhaps students can wear their favorite mask on that day. Class pictures will undoubtedly be a picture to keep for posterity/sentimental reasons and historical records in their personal lives!
Elvis, Sr. Noriega has left the building. All staff and students had a chance
to say adios to him. Our CBE Area Director 6, Michelle Howell, and I had the
great opportunity to meet and interview three strong candidates who really want
to be part of our Camino a la Excelencia/Journey to Excellence. After deep
conversations and reflection, we submitted the successful candidate’s names
into our CBE Chief Superintendent’s office and hope to hear soon with a
possible approval. I hope that I will share the name and professional
profile very soon. A start date will be worked out between their
Principal and me. Although students are sad to see Sr. Noriega go, they
are beginning to get very inquisitive and excited about who the new Assistant
Principal will be.
Tomorrow there is no school as it is a professional development day. We will be immersed in Spanish oral language and writing learning workshops.
From February 16 to 19, we will have One World Drumming offer a virtual drumming residency for students. Grade 1-6 will receive 3 30 minute blocks while Kindergarten will receive 45-1 minute in total instruction. We appreciate the school Council and parents for supporting a Music grant and funds to make this residency possible.
