Principal’s Message

Dear HWW Students, Families, and Community Members,

Trusting that everyone stayed well during the snowy flakes and the upcoming cold snap. We are grateful to have a warm and lovely school to welcome students.

A big thank you to our School Council and volunteers for the Fuel Your Brain initiative providing healthy snacks and pencils to students before exams. Also, we appreciate all the parents/guardians who were able to attend our January School Council meeting this week with a thoughtful discussion about active transportation structures and resources.

This Thursday we will welcome over 600 Grade 9 students for a day of tours and an Open House evening from 6-8pm for Grade 9 families. What a joy to share the outstanding program and learning opportunities here at Henry Wise Wood!

It has been a busy week with exams in session, credit recovery and writing report cards. Report cards are “live” on January 30th at 8:00 am.

If you have a question about your student’s mark calculation, please reach out during Appeals time on Friday from 8am-12pm by calling the school or contacting your student's teacher directly. We have been so pleased to see so many students taking advantage of the credit recovery opportunities to get things done!

Of particular note is the first day of Semester 2, beginning on Monday, January 30th.  New courses begin; Warrior Connect homeroom teachers remain the same. We will touch base with our Grade 10’s on Monday during Wise Time in a short Assembly in the gym, and Grade 11’s during Wise Time in the gym on Tuesday. The Grade 12 Assembly will be held later in February/ early March with a focus on Graduation.

Have a wonderful rest of the week and thank you always for your partnership with us to support student success.

HWW Course Change Requests

The link to the form you must complete to submit your change request can be found below.  Before submitting this request, please keep the following guidelines in mind:

  • Changes will not be made based on switching to a specific teacher (or switching out of a specific teacher's) class.
  • Teaching assignments often change, the teacher listed on your timetable may not be the teacher when the class begins in February.
  • All schedules are subject to change.
  • Courses cannot be moved to different periods because of other commitments unless these have already been discussed with your counsellor or Assistant Principal.
  • This form will ensure that counsellors receive and address every student's request. Only one request is necessary. Once you have submitted you will not be able to change it, or submit again. Be thorough and thoughtful with your explanation of requests. Further emails or phone calls to counsellors may not receive a response in time for start-up.
  •  Counsellors will only contact you if there are questions regarding your schedule. Please be patient and check PowerSchool often for changes to your schedule. If the change you have requested is not made before January 30, it means your counsellor has looked and it is not possible due to your schedule, class capacities, balancing class sizes, etc. Go to the class on your schedule.
  • Counsellors will begin working on the changes when they return to work in January and will start with this form so please only use this form to communicate change requests. Email course requests will not be responded to. Thank you!
  • There is a separate link for online course requests.
