Hello families!

Assessment Update

We wanted to share an update on marks, as we have been receiving inquiries about weightings.  As you recall, due to the extraordinary circumstances this semester, a pre-COVID mark was entered into PowerSchool on April 22. The marks were based on achievement as of March 13. Students continuing to engage in their course can only improve their grade. For cancelled courses this mark is their final mark.

Moving forward, for core subjects (Math, Science, Social, English and PE) the weighting of the pre-COVID mark will be the same as the weighting of the post-COVID mark, 50% each. There will be consistency within departments and courses relative to post-COVID weightings.  Assessment in Creative Arts and CTS courses will continue as presented in the January course outline (i.e. as usual). The higher grade will be reported-April 22 or final June mark.

In keeping with the theme of assessment and reporting, this Friday, which is a non -instructional day, time will be provided for teachers to develop consistent feedback comments and considerations to communicate student progress and achievement.

Providing the continuity of educational opportunities for all our students could not be done without your support! And we thank you for your perseverance, dedication and commitment to our Warriors. In speaking with our teachers, they have discovered students enjoy the routine and consistency of a daily schedule. Many teachers are providing live virtual lessons, live tutorial time and recorded lessons on a weekly basis.  So, there are a few approaches to learning. Some students may be struggling to meet the academic demands without the usual fact to face support, so motivation may be dwindling. Please encourage your child to remain in contact with his/her teacher, administration or counsellor. Seeking proactive assistance and encouraging open communication may result in greater success.

We are looking forward to our virtual School Council Meeting this evening. Please read the following  to access the meeting:
