“We are imperfect creatures. We are, that's what it is. But we should try reaching for the better you, the better me. There is pain and there is difficulties, and there is fears and all the kinds of things that we live with. But it is through them we have to reach. We have to reach out, not just to each other, but to the universe." ~ Sidney Poitier
Dear Henry Wise Wood Students, Parent/Guardians, and Community, We wish you a very Happy New Year and welcome back! Much has changed since December 15 when I last wrote you, but what has not changed is that we are in this together, and we will continue to work together to support student learning. I have been so impressed with our students upon their return to in-person learning. They have been very attentive to masking and other health protocols, and are keen to finish the semester strong.
A reminder that if your student is experiencing even mild symptoms according to the updated Daily Checklist, please keep them home and complete a rapid test. We will be distributing masks and rapid tests as soon as we receive these supplies. We have received questions about online opportunities for students. Unfortunately, we are not able to offer the full learning experience online as well as in person. That being said, as they have been throughout the semester, teachers will post some materials on their D2L shells for self-exploration by students who are away. You'll have received our email communication about the January schedule; please take a close look at all the detailed information it contains.
- Regular classes will be running Jan 10-19. This week is focused on meaningful learning activities for students and wrapping up essential assessments to complete the courses. Attendance will be taken.
- Any work completed during the credit recovery period Jan 20-25 will be no jeopardy. There will be no formal exam sitting.
Athletics is resuming this week with reduced spectators, only 1 parent/ guardian per athlete is now permitted. We know this is difficult and look forward to when things open up again.
Stay safe and thank you for staying connected with us,
Aileen Smyth Principal
