September 2022

Hello Highwood Families,

The Alberta government has just announced that Monday, September 19 will be a day of mourning and NOT a statuary holiday.  Therefore, all students will be required to attend school on Monday.

Below are some reminders and updates to upcoming September events:

September 16: Monday/ Wednesday Kindergarten attends school

September 19 & 20: Terry Fox Run.  Teachers will post on their Google Classroom which day your child's class will be doing the run.  We ask students to either wear their Highwood School shirt or something red.  We encourage students to also bring a “toonie for Terry" with all donations going to the Terry Fox Foundation.  Our goal is to raise $700.

September 19 & 20: Indigenous Drumming with Chantel Chagnon.

September 22 & 23: Meet the Teacher Conferences.  The purpose of these conferences are to provide parents with a chance to meet the teachers and share information about your child that you think the teachers should know.  They are optional and are only 10 minutes long.  Thursday, September 22 conferences will take place in the evening and will be online meetings only.  Friday, September 23 conferences will take place during the day (NO SCHOOL FOR STUDENTS) and will be in-person only.  Bookings begin on Thursday, September 15 at 9:00am via your PowerSchool account.  All bookings will receive a confirmation email (almost immediately) and those online meetings will receive a meeting link in that confirmation email.  If you do not receive a confirmation email, it means that you did not complete the booking process.

September 23: NO SCHOOL FOR ALL STUDENTS- Parent Teacher Conferences

September 26 @ 7:00pm: School Council Meeting- More details to come

September 29: Orange Shirt Day!  Students are encouraged to wear an orange shirt in recognition of Truth and Reconciliation Day.

September 30: NO SCHOOL FOR ALL STUDENTS- Truth and Reconciliation Day

OCTOBER: For various reasons, swimming lessons for kindergarten to grade 2 students will be cancelled.  We will reschedule something else for the K-2 students in the spring.

Sincerely,

Christine Cheung

Principal
