Provincial Achievement Tests

Provincial Achievement Tests (PATs) are part of a balanced, broad-based program of student assessment for Grades 6 and 9 students. The results provide some of the information that guides our educators as they set targets for student achievement and track the results of school improvement initiatives. Visit the CBE website for more information on our students’ provincial testing.

All PATs are held at Lord Shaughnessy High School – 2336 53 Ave. SW

Grade 6 and Grade 9 PAT Schedule

All PATs are held at Lord Shaughnessy High School – 2336 53 Ave. SW

In May and June, Grade 6 and 9 students throughout the province will write Provincial Achievement Tests (PATs) in language arts, mathematics, science and social studies. Results from these tests will provide Alberta Education, school administrators, teachers, parents/guardians, students and the public with information about what students know and can do in relation to provincial standards at the end of Grade 6 and grade 9.

All Grade 6 and 9 CBe-learn students will write PATs at the test center in Lord Shaughnessy School where we are equipped with space, supervision and adequate technology.

A Grade 6 or 9 student who does not write the scheduled PATs will be marked either excused or absent.

Excused or Absent

Excused will be requested and negotiated ahead of time with the Principal for reasons which may include anxiety, a learning disability, etc., and the parent has a reason to want this excused PAT documented.

Absent will occur when the student is ill on the scheduled day or the parent chooses not to bring them to the PAT.

There are no academic consequences for either of the above.

For more information about Grade 6 or grade 9 Provincial Achievement Tests, please visit the Alberta Education website.
