Environmental Initiatives at Our School

We believe that students and staff should contribute to taking care of our environment. We have many features that help lower our school's environmental footprint.

  • Waste Reduction Program
  • Eco-Leaders Club - Student led composting/recycling initiative
  • Grade Three Recycling Club
  • Walking & Wheeling Wednesdays - Promoting reducing emissions
  • Participation in Winter Walk Day - Promoting reducing emissions
  • Participation in Bike to School Day (June 4) - Promoting reducing emissions

​Our School is LEED Certified

Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design® (LEED) is an evaluation tool and a rating system that is recognized in over 160 countries as the international mark of excellence for green buildings.

Why is LEED important?

  • Green buildings contribute to a healthier indoor environment for students, staff, and visitors.
  • Schools that meet LEED requirements are designed and built with natural daylight, better ventilation and are furnished with materials that enhance indoor air quality.
  • They are engineered to conserve energy, decrease water consumption, minimize indoor noise and create better thermal comfort through increased insulation and improved temperature control.
  • Staff and students who live, learn and work in these buildings have been found to be more productive, higher performing and healthier.

The physical environment where students learn plays an important role in influencing students and helping them prepare to become citizens in a complex and ever-changing world. By meeting the requirements of LEED certification, our newer schools both provide a healthy learning environment and a real life model of sustainable development.

Since 2006, all new CBE schools have been designed and built to a minimum LEED Silver rating. For more information, including a list of all CBE LEED certified schools, visit the Sustainability page on the CBE website. Also visit the Canada Green Building Council website.​​
