Registration Process During a Health Emergency

To register new students during the COVID-19 pandemic follow the steps outlined in Registration on the Calgary Board of Education website. Look on the Kindergarten to Grade 9 or High School Registration pages.

During a health emergency when access to school buildings is being limited for everyone's safety, please follow the Registration instructions outlined on the CBE website.

Registration at Calgary Board of Education (CBE) schools is not determined on a first come, first served basis. Registration and admission to schools in CBE are governed by the Education Act and Administrative Regulation 6090 | Child and Student Registration and Admission.

General Registration Information

If you have questions for our school, contact us for information.

It is not possible to register at the school on holidays and during the summer. During the summer break you can find more information and dates on our Back to School page.

Non-Canadian students have a different registration process: please see our Non-Canadian Students page for details.

Transferring Between CBE Schools

At the CBE, when you are transitioning from elementary to middle school, or from middle school to high school, you will be automatically registered at your designated school according to your home address. To find out what your designated school is, use our Find a School tool.

If you are interested in attending a school other than your designated school, visit our Transferring Between CBE Schools page for transfer information. Please note that some schools are quite full and not able to accept all transfer requests.

How to Register

Returning Grade 12 Students

Students are generally expected to complete their high school education in six semesters. However, the Calgary Board of Education does make exceptional provision for students to request a fourth year of high school. The criteria for this request are stated in Administrative Regulation 6093, which reads:

  • The purpose of a fourth year of high school is to complete a program of studies or to meet exceptional needs and circumstances;
  • a fourth year of high school education is not for the purpose of upgrading;
  • For students who have not reached the age of 19 by September 1st for current school year, the Principal may determine that the student has demonstrated commitment and responsibility by attending class regularly, successfully completing most course and planning a courses load to meet or exceed the expectations of the school;
  • and the student has complied with the school code of conduct.

Students can apply by filling in a Returning 12 Application Form. These forms are available in Student Services.

Knowledge & Employability (K&E) Course Registration

If your child is designated to James Fowler High School, simply make an appointment with a James Fowler High School guidance counsellor, and they can help your child register for K&E courses.  If your child is not designated to James Fowler High School, you will need to go to your child’s designated high school in order to pick up a CBE school transfer form before making an appointment with a James Fowler High School guidance counsellor.
