Languages

The world is full of languages. You do not have to go far from your front door to realize that this is true. An old Czech proverb says that you live a new life for every language you speak. Languages are treasures to discover and they open many doors (CASLT). Extend your reach and give yourself a competitive edge in improving your grades in Math and English.  Languages give us a job advantage in a global economy and help us understand how other people think. They give us a general understanding of our world and the people who live in it.  They also help us expand our personal horizons and become responsible citizens. According to Alberta Learning, some reasons to take a second language are:

  • improved potential in the Canadian and global market
  • opportunity to communicate with people from other language groups
  • renewing contact with a heritage and culture that may have been lost through assimilation

These courses are advisable if planning to major in languages

French, Spanish, and German are offered at James Fowler High School. It is important to know that certain university faculties accept the 30 level mark of a second language instead of a Math 30 for entrance into university. Students interested in AP French and/or Spanish should consult with the AP Learning Leader. We prioritize personalization and differentiation in our instruction.
