Spanish is offered at James Fowler High School. It is important to know that certain university faculties accept the 30 level mark of a second language instead of a Math 30 for entrance into university. Students interested in AP French and/or Spanish should consult with the AP Learning Leader.

Spanish Language and Culture 10 (3-Y)

5 Credits
Prerequisite: None

The Spanish Language and Culture course is designed for students who have had little or no experience in Spanish. Students will develop the six basic communicative skills of reading, speaking, writing, listening, viewing and representing. This course is taught with a variety of learning styles to accommodate any learner. Students will be evaluated in a variety of ways and will be engaged in many relevant, fun, and meaningful activities. Students will also increase their cultural awareness by doing technology-based research.

Spanish Language and Culture 20 (3-Y)

5 Credits
Prerequisite: Spanish Language and Culture 10 (3-Y) or equivalent

This course is a continuation of Spanish 10. Students will continue to develop the six basic communicative skills of reading, speaking, writing, listening, viewing and representing. The use of collaborative and co-operative techniques will enhance teaching and learning in the classroom. Students will work on a variety of themes and will acquire knowledge and skills to become global citizens. They will use the language effectively and competently. They will also use technology as an effective tool in their learning.

Spanish Language and Culture 30 (3-Y)

5 Credits
Prerequisite: Spanish Language and Culture 20 (3-Y) or equivalent

This course is a culmination of Spanish 10 and 20. Students will be able to communicate more effectively in a variety of situations. They will continue to acquire skills and attitudes to become global citizens. They will continue to use a variety of strategies to maximize the effectiveness of language learning. They will also be exposed to assessment for learning concepts to make their learning relevant, meaningful, and reflective. The use of technology will continue to be an effective tool.​
