John G. Diefenbaker High School is a closed campus for the exclusive use of currently registered students and staff. During regular business and instructional hours, all visitors, including parents, must report to the Main Office. Being on school property without permission is considered trespassing and may be charged as such by the City Police. Diefenbaker students are not to visit other schools during the school day or invite friends to visit them here at the school.
We take safety and security seriously. It is important that we maintain a safe and caring community so that learning can take place.
Visitors & Volunteers
Our school is a closed campus. All visitors and volunteers must report directly to the main office to sign-in. Students should not invite friends to visit the school. Individuals found on school property who do not have legitimate business with the school and who have not registered in the main office may be charged with trespassing while on school property.
Diefenbaker students are not to visit other schools during the school day or invite friends to visit them here at the school.
Lanyards or Student Identification Cards (ID)
In order to maintain safety and security, all students, staff, and visitors will be provided with a lanyard and photo ID card, which must be on your person at all times while in the school building, on school property, or at CBE sanctioned athletic events and must be accessible to be shown upon request. All students must have a picture taken for the purpose of school issued ID. Replacement ID can be purchased in the Learning Commons for $5.00. The lanyard and ID photo shall not be altered in any way.
Students are required to present their ID card to CBE/CPS employees upon request please note, this includes staff members at schools hosting events, such as athletic, club, or social activities. Lanyards are expected to be visible during assessments and final exams.
Lost or Stolen ID Cards
If photo identification is lost, it can be replaced for a cost of $5.00 in the Learning Commons.
Accidents
The details of any accident are to be reported immediately, either to a teacher or to the Main Office for appropriate documentation and/or communication.
Student Searches
In the event that school safety and security is a concern administration has the right to complete searches of student lockers, student property or personal belongings at any time.
School Resource Officer
The role of the Resource Officer is to provide guidance and act as a legal resource for teachers, students, parents/guardians and the community at large. Part of this role is to encourage communication and greater understanding among young people and the Calgary Police Service.
