| Dear Keeler Families, Field Trips Our Grade 1 students were the first Keeler students to go on a field trip in almost 2 years! It felt so great to leave the school and get out and explore in nature. We went to Fish Creek Park on Monday and Wednesday and had so much fun using our senses to learn about who and what lives in the park. Check out some photos of the trip on Twitter @KeelerSchool All other grades will be attending an offsite experience this year – stay tuned for grade specific information. Thank you to School Council for financially supporting field trips. School Council has committed to paying for all off site experiences to ensure that all students participate and families do not have to pay. Learning Conversations Learning Conversations were a huge success. Thank you to all the families that connected with their child's teacher to discuss student progress and next steps. Over 80% of families met with Keeler teachers. If you were unable to meet with your child's teacher, it is not too late. Please email or call the school and we will help you set up a meeting. Construction Updates We are so happy to share that the last two classes moved into their new classroom spaces today! Ms. Sergent and Ms. McPherson's Grade 3 students are now downstairs. Please see attached photos. We can't wait until we can invite families inside our school to see the new learning spaces. The painting of the common areas (gym, hallways, learning commons) will begin this week and we just found out that we have been approved to have our classrooms painted also! This is fantastic news. The inside of our school is going to look brand new very soon. School Development Plan Our School Development Plan has been finalized. You can see it on our school's website. Our School DevelopmentPlan outline's this year's literacy, numeracy and well-being focus. Spark We are excited to be starting a Spark program every morning in the gym from 8:00-8:20. This will be an opportunity for identified students to release some energy in a structured way that targets gross motor skills as well as promoting self-regulation breathing and calming strategies. Teachers will identify students who will benefit from this activity. Dress for the Weather As the weather begins to change, please send your student to school with appropriate clothing. Students are expected to go outside for lunch recess until the temperature dips below -20 degrees Celsius as per CBE direction. School Hours Reminder that school hours are 8:00am-2:30pm Monday to Thursday and 8:00am-12:00pm on Fridays. Please arrive at your grade designated doors before 8:00am to ensure that your child is present for important morning announcements and instruction. If you arrive after 8:00am please use the front doors as all grade team doors will be locked for the safety and security of all students and staff. | Dear Keeler Families, We hope you were able to spend some time yesterday recognizing Truth and Reconciliation Day to honor survivors, help in healing, and contribute to reconciliation. This week, teachers and students were engaged in many learning opportunities to continue to build their foundational knowledge about First Nation, Metis and Inuit for the benefit of all students. Our Grade 4/5 students were inspired by Alex Janvier and created beautiful weaving pieces. Alex Janvier is a pioneer of contemporary Canadian Aboriginal art. Students in Grade 3 painted rocks after reading Trudy's Rock Story by Trudy Spiller. Students reflected on how to manage and honor their personal feelings and emotions. Grade 2 students listened to traditional Powwow music, moved to the beat and discussed how the drum is much like a heartbeat. Students reflected in their writing journals about the significance of Orange Shirt Day. Kindergarten and Grade 1 students continue to learn about and practice engaging in circles. This was an opportunity for students to learn how to share stories and respect and listen to other's voices. Meet the Teacher You may already have been contacted by your child's teacher for an opportunity to “Meet the Teacher". This continues to be an opportunity for parents to connect and ask any questions they may have. Teachers have until Friday, October 8th to connect with all families. Grade teams sent out “Meet the Teacher" presentations on Tuesday, September 28th. You can find those presentations here. Mr. Yeung and Ms. Taylor also sent a video message. You can find that video here. School Council Upcoming School Council Dates – October 27th at 6pm – virtual.
