Behaviour

Disciplinary problems will be addressed first by the immediate supervising adult. This includes the classroom teacher, support staff, noon-hour supervisors, and adults volunteering in the school. Students are reminded that all adults in a supervisory role are responsible for their safety. Please help your child understand that all adults in our school are working toward student safety.

In our student discipline, we seek ways to structure learning opportunities while maintaining a child’s dignity and self-esteem. Recurrent and serious behavioral problems are referred to an administrator and will be handled in the following manner:

  1. Situations will be thoroughly investigated, taking care to listen to all sides.
  2. Students will be informed of their rights, expectations and responsibilities throughout each school year. Clearly defined expectations and consequences will be discussed.
  3. Inappropriate behavior will be documented; parents will be informed of seriously inappropriate and/or recurrent behavioral issues and consequences will be discussed.
  4. Consequences could include making up missed schoolwork, loss of privileges, community service, behavior report, in-school suspension, home suspension or expulsion.

We deal with discipline issues in two ways. For the minor infractions, a Peace Log or Action Plan will be sent home for parents to review, sign and return to the school.

The major infractions or reoccurring issues can be dealt with by a suspension. The suspension can be either in-school or out-of-school. The Principal determines the length and type of suspension. Formal suspensions remain as part of the student’s cumulative record.

The CBE is committed to providing students and staff with a welcoming, caring, respectful and safe learning environment that respects diversity and fosters a sense of belonging. With this in mind, the CBE has created a system-wide Administrative Regulation 6005 - Student Code of Conduct  with input from students, parents and CBE employees.
