Let the adventure begin!

Dear Families,

We hope that your summer was relaxing and enjoyable, and that you were able to spend time doing what you love the most! We are energized and excited to start the 2021-2022 school year and look forward to working with your child(ren).

One of our key priorities this year will be on wellness. Ensuring that students feel safe, cared for, and welcomed at school, and feel like they belong in their inclusive classrooms will be attended to as part of our daily routines. Student success is important to all of us at King George and we know that for students to be successful, they must have positive relationships and be able to have a voice in their learning. We will strive to offer entry points for all our learners into their learning and provide opportunities for students to share what's important to them in building a positive school climate.

As we shift our focus to a new school year, we will continue to support our students in building their knowledge and use of best literacy and numeracy strategies. We will focus on oral French production and encourage students to speak the language throughout the day so they can build their fluency. French language development will be emphasized across disciplines, including mathematics where students will engage in mathematical discussions to share their strategies and solutions to mathematical problems.

Indigenous Education will also be a priority for all of us in the CBE. Each school across the system committed to a Truth and Reconciliation Action for the 2021-2022 school year. At King George School we commit to strengthening Indigenous Education by weaving Indigenous ways of knowing through our curriculum and learning from our Forest Garden and Indigenous artists. We will begin this work immediately by learning from an Indigenous artist James Jones aka Notorious Cree, who will engage our students in a hoop dance performance followed by Indigenous teaching about traditions.

Looking ahead, we are eager to begin the learning adventures and support each child in their academic endeavours. We believe each child can be successful and we will work together to support our students in their learning.

Sincerely,

Shafina Dharamsi

Principal, King George School
