April 2020 Update

Thank you to everyone in our school community for your understanding as we move from classes in school to providing ongoing learning. Alberta Education has mandated literacy and mathematics as priority areas for teaching and learning with K-6 students at this time, so that is where we are putting our focus.

We are all in this together; families, teachers and school staff, and we know that 'ongoing learning' doesn't resemble or replace 'regular school'. This is emergency response teaching, and learning during a pandemic is far from normal. We recognize that all families have different contexts, experiences and needs. If you are struggling in any way to make sense of this new environment, please reach out for support from your child's teacher.

As we move to online learning platforms, we appreciate that parents and guardians need to be our 'digital partners'  to support students in this new environment and that we will be relying on you to help children to connect digitally, to attend to 'school' and appropriately submit learning artifacts. We realize these make significant demands on families. We are committed to working together with students and families as we introduce new routines over the coming weeks. We greatly value your feedback related to how your children and your family are managing with these new expectations.

As you know, the city of Calgary has banned all large group gatherings until June 30. CBE has given us direction to cancel the following scheduled events:

Annual Volunteer Celebration

Staff Appreciation Week

Welcome to School events

Talent Show

Moving On Celebration (grade 6 farewell)

It is difficult to contemplate a school without students and a school year without these beloved and meaningful events. Please know we will do our best to recognize and show our gratitude to our staff, our volunteers, our School Council and our grade 6 students in other ways.

With the theme of “Acceptance is our Superpower”, GlobalFest was able to host Virgin Radio Host Andrew Uyeno in a classroom discussion about what it means to be biracial. https://t.co/WLOrHlIvSg
