September 11, 2023Dear Members of the Lord Beaverbrook High School Community, My name is David Sparrow and it is with pleasure and a sense of privilege that I take this opportunity to introduce myself as the newly appointed Principal of Lord Beaverbrook High School (LBHS). I am thrilled to join this acclaimed institution and become a part of a community that is renowned for its unwavering commitment to equity, achievement, and wellness. It is anticipated that I will officially assume my duties near the end of September/beginning of October, 2023.I have come to this role with over 25 years of experience in education. My career journey commenced as an instructor at the University of Calgary, where my deep passion for education and the pursuit of knowledge was first ignited. Subsequently, I embarked on my journey within the Calgary Board of Education (CBE). My roles have included that of a secondary science teacher and advanced placement biology teacher. Also, I have served as a learning leader and Assistant Principal in various CBE High Schools, where my most recent Assistant Principal position was at Lord Beaverbrook High School. In 2017, I transitioned to the role of Principal at Mountain Park School, which was an honor. I enjoyed my experience at MPS where I grew tremendously as a Leader and forged lasting relationships with members of the community. This role also allowed me to maintain an indirect connection with LBHS because most Mountain Park students transition to Lord Beaverbrook High School after grade 9. I eagerly anticipate rekindling past relationships with LBHS staff, students, parents, and guardians and equally look forward to establishing new connections with those I have yet to meet. The diverse experiences throughout my career have provided me with invaluable insights into the multifaceted needs of students, parents, and educators alike. At Lord Beaverbrook High School, my foremost goal is to build upon and perpetuate the prevailing culture of mastery and achievement. My vision involves working with the exceptional staff to offer an enriching and meaningful educational experience to every student in our institution. I passionately believe in nurturing a school culture that is not only safe, positive, and inclusive but also one that wholeheartedly celebrates the accomplishments of our students across all domains. Furthermore, it is crucial that we promote positive citizenship and deeply appreciate the distinctive talents and contributions that everyone brings to the school community.Open lines of communication and collaborative efforts form the bedrock of student success. I wholeheartedly encourage parents and guardians to actively participate in their child's educational journey and engage with the vibrant school community at Lord Beaverbrook High School. Throughout the school year, you can expect to receive regular updates on notable events, academic milestones, and extracurricular activities through email communications and updates on Lord Beaverbrook’s website. Additionally, I extend a warm invitation to all of you to attend school activities and functions, as your involvement is pivotal to the holistic development and success of our students. My official start date at Lord Beaverbrook will be determined soon. I hope to be on-site for the beginning of October. Further communication will be shared once my start date is finalized. In the meantime, Bruce Johnston will continue to very capably support the Lord Beaverbrook community.I am thrilled to embark on this promising journey with all of you. I eagerly anticipate the opportunity to acquaint myself with staff, students, and families.
