Weekly Update | June 25
School Update To the students and families of MRS, As we write our final message to all of you until the start of the 2021-22 school year, we want to take a moment to express our gratitude for your support. You have entrusted your students with us during one of the most challenging times we have all experienced. School had to be re-imagined, and our teachers took up this challenge with incredible flexibility and fortitude. The teachers deserve a standing ovation for their ability to bring learning alive amidst never travelled before and ever-changing terrain. The end of the school year is always an invitation for reflection and one thing we have learned this year is that our students are resilient and will always rise to a challenge. Many strong relationships were formed this year as we all learned to communicate with each other in a new way. In many ways, the pandemic has made our relationships even stronger. With the year coming to a close, we long to begin anew in September and welcome our students back to a bold and exciting new year. We look forward to a year where we can gather for events such as assemblies and clubs, field studies and opportunities to learn on the land, and more than anything, to welcome parents back into the school to join as volunteers and guests! We wish you a happy and safe summer where the playful and inquisitive nature of the students guides you to new discoveries. David Laidlaw and Sandy McNeil Upcoming Important Dates June 28 Last Day of School Grade 1-4 Early Dismissal (12:30) June 29 Appeals Day June 30 Non-Instruction Day August 25 Office Opens (8:30am – 4:00pm) September 1 First day of school Virtual Farewell The end of a school year provides us with the opportunity to celebrate and showcase student learning and other memorable moments. For our grade 4’s, this marks the beginning of a new journey as they will no longer be with us at Maple Ridge School. To celebrate the accomplishments of our grade 4 students and to honor the school year for all students, we will have a virtual celebration on our final day of instruction on Monday, June 28th. As our Kindergarten student's final day has already passed, Ms. McNeil and Mr. Laidlaw were able to connect with each class on their final day to say goodbye and to read them a story. Staff Changes While June is an exciting time of year for many, it can also be difficult as we have to say goodbye to some of our staff members. We are sad to say goodbye to Mrs. Bowers (teacher) as she will be taking her talents to Richmond School, and to Ms. Julie Kim (lunchroom supervisor) as she has accepted a job at Buffalo Rubbing Stone School. We would like to wish them all the best in their future endeavors. Office Hours and First Day of Class Our first day of school for the 2021-2022 year will be Wednesday, September 1st. The office will open on Wednesday, August 25th from 8:30 am – 4:00 pm and can be reached at 403-777-6280 or firstname.lastname@example.org. Lost and Found Despite our efforts to remind students to check our Lost and Found for any missing items, we have still managed to collect a clothing rack full of items ready to be returned to their rightful owner. Please take a moment to view our Lost and Found Video and email us at email@example.com if you notice anything that needs to be returned. Report Cards This is a reminder that all report cards remain only available online. All families will have access to their child’s report card through the MYCBE Account on Saturday, June 26, 2021. School Council School Council continues to make a big difference in the learning of our students. The support they provide has allowed for many items to be purchased at our school for student use that may not have been possible with our school decentralized account. We would also like to express our sincere thanks on behalf of all staff from MRS for the much-appreciated end of year gift each staff member received. We strongly encourage all families to consider joining our school council team next year.
