1.     Student-Parent Teacher Conferences

Our Online Parent-Student-Teacher Conferences Booking System opens for bookings this Saturday Nov. 19th at 10am and closes Nov. 24 at 3pm. These conferences are an opportunity to connect regarding your child's progress while at school and one of the ways that Marion Carson School builds a strong network of support for student learning. It is important for all families to book an appointment with their child's teacher.

Appointment are occurring online on Microsoft TEAMS:

-       November 24th from 4:30pm – 8:00pm

-       November 25th from 8:00am – 1:30pm

How to book?

-       Conference sign-up occurs online through your child's MyCBE account.

-       For support on booking a conference, please see this Booking School Conferences Parent Guide.

*If you would like to request that your meeting be in-person, please book an appointment through conference manager as per normal. Once booked, you should then email your child's homeroom teacher requesting that their meeting be in person. Your child's teacher will then expect you in-person.

2.     Safety Over Convenience

I would like to once again thank all families who are paying close attention to student and adult safety during pick-up and drop-off times. While outdoors this week, I was able to connect with many parents who shared the same feelings and have noticed improvements in traffic flow and pedestrian safety. Please continue to be sure to use the crosswalks when crossing the road with or without your children and make note that there is no crosswalk directly coming from the path associated with our school playground or our main entry doors.

3.     AHS Notice of Respiratory Illness Outbreak at Marion Carson School

Some parents mentioned that they had difficulty opening the Alberta Health Services Notice of Respiratory Illness Outbreak at Marion Carson School letter that was sent November 15, 2022 and others stated that they had to click on the link twice for it to open properly. Please click here for a direct link to the letter on our school website.

Please also note that CBE is updating daily absence rates due to illness for schools at the following link on their website.

4.     Veterans Food Bank of Calgary Food Drive

Thank you to the Marion Carson School community for your generosity towards the Veterans Food Bank of Calgary. In total we were able to fill 7 boxes full of non-perishable items. Way to go Marion Carson!

5.     Winter Celebration

We are currently planning our December 8th Whole School Winter Celebration. We will be having two events planned for that evening depending on your child's homeroom class. Students and families will be asked to come to either the 5:30pm or the 7:15pm performance. More information will be shared by your classroom teacher and Ms. Seto our Music Teacher in the near future.

*Please note, that this event is planned to be in-person at this time, but we are closely monitoring our absence rates and outbreak status and will make a decision as to whether to keep this celebration in-person or move to an online format in the near future.

6.     School Council Meeting

Thank you to everyone who attended both online or in-person for our School Council / Parent Association Meeting this past Wednesday. We had our Director of Area 1 come to the meeting as well. Parents had the opportunity to ask to great questions with respect to Area supports, school programming and funding. Please see the minutes below for more detailed information.
