Principal's Message - Dec. 2, 2022

We are happy to announce that as of December 1, 2022 Alberta Health Services has ended the respiratory illness outbreak at Marion Carson School. Thank you very much for everyone's support in getting our school back to a consistent illness rate below 10%. Please continue to keep your children at home if sick and follow AHS recommendations. Staff will continue to implement the same standards of health and hygiene practice that along with your help, supported staff and student wellness.

1.     Winter Celebration

We are excited that this year Marion Carson School is hosting two performances for the Winter Concert in our school gymnasium. Half of the classes will perform at 5:30pm (doors open at 5pm) and the other half will perform at 7:15pm (doors open at 6:45pm). A hard copy letter was sent home today with details and tickets to attend our in-person Winter Concert. Two tickets were attached at the bottom the hard copy letter. Please bring your ticket(s) with you to present at the door.

In the event that you are unable to attend your child's performance, please return your tickets to the school office as soon as possible, so that we may offer them to another family.

If your family needs more tickets, please cut off and keep the tickets, and then fill out the form on the hard copy letter requesting more tickets.  Please return the requests by 9:15am on Tuesday, December 6th so that we can try to provide you with extra tickets. Please note that extra tickets are based on availability.

2.     Free Online Sessions - Understanding and Promoting Youth Mental Health for Families and Caregivers

In CBE, we believe that you can inspire your kids to make healthy lifestyle choices and increase protective factors. However, in order to do so, the right tools and information are needed. That's why we're launching a new five-part web series.

On Dec. 6, the CBE's Well-Being team will host a free online session with the Community Health Promotion Services Team from Alberta Health Services on the topic of student mental health.

You are invited to join us at the virtual session from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.

Understanding and Promoting Youth Mental Health for Families and Caregivers
Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2022
7:00 to 8:30 p.m.

You will be able to ask questions, hear from others with similar and different experiences and resources will be shared. Thank you for your time and consideration. You are a key partner in your child's education and student well-being is critically linked to student achievement.

3.     Reporting Absences or Early Pick-up

We ask that families write in their child's agenda or communication book when they know that their child will be an early pick-up on any given day. Your child will then be sent down to the office with the note to ensure that the office is aware. This allows us to ensure that both teacher and office are aware of the alternate arrangement.

A reminder that when a child is absent, you are asked to phone in the absence to the school's absence line (403 777-6050, option 1) and email the teacher. This helps us to ensure student safety with efficiency on a daily basis. We appreciate your support in this matter.
