Weekly Message – January 20, 2023

What a wonderful week that we have had celebrating student learning. Our Celebration of Learning had a great turn out of families coming to explore student learning connected to our School Development Plan in the areas of Literacy, Numeracy and Well-being. I know students were very proud and excited to be able to share this learning with their families.

Our Lunar New Year Celebration was a great opportunity to celebrate Chinese culture and learning. The Chinese zodiac gives each year an animal sign. We learned about how Chinese New Year 2023 is a Year of the Rabbit, more specifically, Water Rabbit, starting from January 22nd. Students have been, and will continue participating in various Lunar New Year activities as organized by our Mandarin teachers and students to celebrate this occasion.

Some items to note…

  1. Mrs. Roth's Retirement Surprise (shhh)!

As a special surprise to Mrs. Roth who’s retiring at the end of this week (last day January 26, 2023), we would like to quietly invite all students to wear their Calgary Flames jerseys or red clothing on Thursday, January 26th. As an avid Flames fan, we know she will love being given this final memory of her time here as Library Assistant at Marion Carson School.

  1. Fun Lunch Reminder - Subway

Reminder that the next fun lunch will be on January 27, 2023 with Subway, which is now live on the healthy hunger website! The deadline for ordering will be January 22, 2023 midnight!

Please note, Fun Lunch on January 27 is being offered to Grade 1- 6 classes and ONLY group B Kindergarten class as this is the only kindergarten class that will be in attendance over the nutrition break on that day. Visit https://healthyhunger.ca/ to place an order.

  1. School Council / Parent Association Meeting

Our next School Council / Parent Association meeting is this Wednesday, January 25th, 2023 at 7pm and will be occurring in a hybrid format both in our Library Learning Commons (doors open at 6:45pm) and online (link below).
