Weekly Message - Feb. 24, 2023

Our Mandarin Bilingual program students in our Grade 1 and 2 classes held a successful learning celebration this morning for our school community. This celebration focused on the Eagle representing the virtue of “Love". Students sang songs, shared poems, and shared in their classroom learning around ways to demonstrate spread love and kindness. Students were challenged at the end of the celebration to think about how there are going to be the leaders of today and tomorrow in spreading kindness and love working to make the world a better place for others, self and the environment. I encourage families to discuss these ideas further with their children as a way to continue the conversation outside of school.

1.     School Conferences

Our Student-led Conferences will be occurring Thursday, March 9 and Friday, March 10, 2023. These conferences are an opportunity where all students attend with their parents. Each child will lead their parent/guardian through some activities and artifacts that demonstrate their in-class learning, progress, and experience.

We are asking parents to sign-up for a 1-hour time slot using the school conference manager under the Book and Manage Meetings Times icon found within their MyCBE account. The Conference Manager System will open Saturday, March 4 at 10am for bookings and will close Thursday, March 9 at 12pm noon.

During your booked time, parents are invited to drop-in to their child's classroom where students will have artifacts / activities to share with their parents. These activities will take approximately 20-30 minutes - such that the conferences are not rushed and that you have time to move from one class to the next should families have more than one child / conference to attend. Parents with more than one child are asked to book a 1-hour time slot for each child's homeroom teacher (this could be the same 1-hour time slot booked with more than 1 teacher).

Student-Led Conference Times:

·       Thursday, March 9 from 4:30pm – 7:30pm (Book Fair open from 4:15pm - 7:45pm)

·       Friday, March 10 from 9:00am – 12:00pm (Book Fair open from 8:45am – 12:15pm)

Please note that this is a time for you and your child to share and celebrate in their learning. As there will be multiple families in the room at the same time, we ask for parents to refrain from asking personal questions about their child and instead communicate and ask specific questions with teachers through another format. As always, we encourage families to have ongoing communication with their child's teacher throughout the school year.

*In-person Book Fair will be occurring in the school and will open and close 15 minutes before and after the student-led conference times (more details about the book fair to come)

2.     School Council / Parent Association Meeting & 2023 School Planning Engagement

As per last week's message, we spent time sharing a presentation on 2023 School Planning and Engagement. This is one of the ways that we gather feedback from parents around our School Development Plan, Budget and Fees. We encourage all families to review the condensed presentation here, and complete the online survey (linked here) before the end of the day March 9th. Thank you to all who attended the meeting. Please view the School Council/Parent Society meeting minutes here.

Sincerely,

Mr. D. Turner
