Principal's Parting Words

June 16, 2022

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Today, I share with you that I will be leaving as principal of McKenzie Highlands at the end of this school year. I am assuming a new leadership role with the CBE as System Principal, Area 7.

As I reflect upon a career that has spanned 25 years, I can honestly say that the last six years have been the most professionally and personally rewarding as I was blessed with the opportunity to be part of opening this dynamic school community.

We have come a long way in six years! We are a “legendary" community because of the people that make up this school community. The gratitude that I feel for staff, students, and parents runs very deep.

As I prepare to leave, I can honestly say I am truly filled with mixed emotions. For me, the past six years have gone so incredibly fast. Every day, I was excited to come to work, knowing that challenge would be met and tremendous opportunity provided for our kids. Much has been accomplished in support of our students. Those accomplishments were made possible through students, staff, and parents working together as a community. I will never forget one day of my work here. Every day, I could count on students to make me proud and teachers to inspire me. I will forever treasure the kindness and support that McKenzie Highlands students, staff, and parents have extended towards me.

Very shortly a survey will be sent out for parent input on the selection of a new principal and the Education Director hopes to have a new principal announced by the end of the school year.

I have every confidence that McKenzie Highlands will continue to move forward as a very strong school community. I consider myself most fortunate that I had the opportunity to be a member of this truly exceptional community for a moment in time.

Warmest regards,

Kel Connelly

Principal
