Hello Midnapore Families,

Thank you to our families who completed our School Planning Survey. The survey closes on March 27. If you have not yet had a chance to complete the survey, please take a couple of minutes to help us make important decisions about next year.

It was a beautiful week and so great to have parents see our Domain learning assembly. We were able to conclude our assembly by doing a school-wide community walk to connect with our body. Thank you to those parents who also joined us for our walk.

Our Area Director, Ann Ard, visited our school this week and was deeply engaged in classroom work with our Grade 5 students. Students from Grade 5 participated in story writing and shared some of their writing with their teachers and fellow students.

Cultural with Chantal

Grade 3 and 4 students had a great opportunity to learn about the Medicine Wheel and traditional drumming on Friday with Chantal Chagnon. Many students asked how they can learn more about drumming and other traditional Indigenous activities. Chantal leads several learning opportunities that you can take a look at if you are interested:

Sound Kreations

We are excited to start our SK Dance residency where all grades will have the chance to learn some sweet hip hop moves and a full routine, and then have the chance to display what they learned in a daytime presentation at the end of the week. Our presentations will be open to families. Since we know lots of you love attending our special events, we are holding two separate presentations. All students will present in both presentations – the separation is just to split up the audience into two smaller groups.

Parents of students in Division 1 (grade K-3): 9:30-10:30am (doors open at 9:15am)
Parents of students in Division 2 (grade 4-6): 11:00-12:00pm (doors open at 10:45am)

If you have students in both divisions, please choose one of the presentations to attend.

World Down Syndrome Day – Rock Your Socks

A universal way to celebrate World Down Syndrome Day and to spread awareness is an event called "Rock Your Socks". To participate, you wear bright, mismatched socks on March 21st (World Down Syndrome Day). The socks are used as a conversation starter. When someone asks why you are wearing crazy socks, you can reply "I am rocking my socks to spread Down syndrome awareness and to advocate for acceptance and inclusion." Students are welcome to join us in spreading awareness this Tuesday by rocking their socks.

Jersey/Spirit Day – Thursday March 23

We will be having Jersey Day on Thursday. Students are welcome to show their spirit by wearing their favorite team’s jersey, shirt, hoodie, colour, etc. Students are encouraged to wear a jersey of their choice, but this does not mean that anyone needs to go out and buy a jersey, but if you have a jersey, shirt or hoodie at home that you would like to wear then Thursday is the day!

AHS Vaccinations

If you have received a letter from AHS regarding your child’s vaccination, please can you return the form before Monday as they are past due. If you have NOT received an AHS letter, please ignore this reminder.

Are your children attending Midnapore School next year?

As we begin our planning for the next school year, we would like to know if you are planning to remain at Midnapore School. Accurate enrolment data helps us to plan effectively. We are aware that we have sent this message in previous messages but understand that circumstances change for families.

We want to remind parents that our current grade 6 students will automatically be enrolled for grade 7 at their designated school for September 2023. This also includes our Grade 4 Mandarin students who will be transferring as well. We are creating transition plans for each of these grades. You do not need to do anything.

Please inform us if your child(ren) will NOT be attending Midnapore School in September 2023 by emailing Mrs. Sorge at cosorge@cbe.ab.ca ASAP.

If you are transferring to a different CBE school, please complete the attached Student Transfer form and email Mrs. Sorge. If you are leaving the CBE school division, you do not need to complete the Student Transfer form.
