Dear Midnapore School Community,
We have had many events and initiatives started since the beginning of the school year. Our school has set the intention to focus on rebuilding collaborative and interactive community practices. To support this intention, Midnapore School will be using the Indigenous Education Holistic Lifelong Learning Framework (Holistic Framework) as a guide. The Holistic Framework uses the visual of a Medicine Wheel and encourages us to consider four domains to promote well-rounded opportunities for growth and learning. Our guiding values in our school focuses on:
- Taking care of ourselves
- Taking care of others
- Taking care of this place
Through these values, we are using the four domains of: Spirit, Heart, Body, and Mind to support student wellness. Our challenges coincide with each domain:
- Spirit – Daily Mindfulness (each day 5 minutes of daily mindfulness is occurring in the classrooms)
- Heart – Care Bucks (students earn care bucks when they are seen demonstrating kindness and caring)
- Body – Morning Exercise (students are welcome in the school 15 minutes before school starts to participate in early morning exercises)
- Mind – Home Reading challenge (students are encouraged to read at home)
We hope you are as excited as we are about getting back to activities that promote a strong sense of community and connection at our school.
A thank you is in order for all of our incredible parent volunteers who have supported us in the school this fall. We have had many parent volunteers so far this year. Some of these include:
- Open Mind Healthy Living off campus program with the Grade 5 and 6 classrooms
- Walks in the neighbourhood with many classrooms
- Helping during our picture taking day
- Attending school council meetings and taking on executive positions
- Supporting Fun lunches and snacks
- Attending field trips
- Volunteering in our classrooms and learning commons
It has been wonderful to see parents in our assemblies and participating in our Halloween parade and dance. Thank you to all parents who are supporting our initiatives by getting their children to the school early for exercises and supporting students with home reading. We appreciate your support as we work together to make Midnapore School an amazing place of learning.
As always, please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.
