Midnapore School has a music specialist (Natalie Hebert M. Ed), and a dedicated space as a music room. The core of our program is to “systemically develop music skills, knowledge and perception, and is fundamental to the total development of the child.” We use music for self expression and creativity, develop insights through meaningful music activities, foster an enjoyment of music, and develop an awareness of a variety of music from many cultures.
- Albert Music Curriculum
Students develop their skills in rhythm, melody, harmony, form and expression through active participation in music activities. We sing, play a variety of instruments, listen to music, move to music, read music, write music, and create music using age appropriate materials.
We celebrate our learning through assemblies, concerts, student led conferences, and inter grade activities (like buddy classes). We are very lucky to have a strong parent community that supports our students’ performances. Although performances are fun and engaging, the focus in music class is on the process of learning (see the blog posts!), and developing each child’s musicality, not always the final product.
