Honouring the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (Orange Shirt Day)
In sports, our Mount Royal basketball teams had a successful season. Our boys' team placed 3rd in their division losing a heartbreaking game in the last 10 seconds of the semi-final game. Our girls' team placed 2nd overall, playing in the finals at Crescent Heights High school against Riverside school. Congratulations to both of our teams for an outstanding season. Our wrestling season is now underway with upcoming tournaments in December and January. We are looking forward to hosting a wrestling tournament on Tuesday January 16th. Our Remembrance Day assembly was held on the morning of Wednesday November 8th. It was a lovely ceremony that honored the memory, courage, and sacrifice of those who served their country and fought for peace. We were fortunate to have Major Bob Wade join us and speak to his experiences in the Canadian Air Force. Thank you to everyone who was able to contribute to our Food Drive for the Veterans Food Bank of Calgary – it was very successful.Parent/Teacher/Student conferences took place on November 23rd and November 24th, and it was an excellent opportunity for our teachers to meet with parents to discuss their child's progress. If you have any feedback regarding the format of our interviews, please email me at: email@example.com. Yesterday our Grade 9's attended Try-A-Trade at Central Memorial High School. This was an opportunity for students to explore the options that are available for them at the CT centre when they attend High School.Coming up in December are several opportunities and experiences for our Mount Royal students. On December 4th, there is an initial meeting for students who are interested in joining a woodworking club. This will take place at 3:00 pm in the construction room and I am excited to see what our students will build. On the December 7, our Grade 8's will be hosting a Renaissance fair where students are given the opportunity to highlight their learning from their Social Studies classes. The event starts at 12:15 pm and parents who are able are encouraged to attend. Our P.E. classes are in the dance unit and have brought in a residency dancer for West African Dance representing multiple countries across Africa. Students are learning to move in a way that is new to many of them and look like they are having a great time. Our Winter Celebration will take place on the December 19th from 6:30-7:30 pm. We are looking forward to highlighting some of the amazing talents of our students. Winter Break takes place from December 25th – January 5th. There will be no classes and the school will be closed during this time. We hope that everyone will have a chance to rest, rejuvenate and enjoy time with family and friends during this break.
