Principals Message - September 2020

Hello Friends and Family of Nellie McClung School,

Thank you all for your kind and gentle support as we work together to come back to school.  It has been a very different but a very exciting September at Nellie.  We are learning new things in new ways and as always coming together as a Learning Community to support and care for our children and students.  At Nellie we are so blessed to have so many talented staff, creative students and dedicated parents who are resilient and willing to work together to find new ways of reaching our goals.

Some of you have children learning in the Hub.  You are still apart of the Nellie family.  You are trying to balance the work, home, school life in a way where your child works primarily in the virtual world to complete their school work.  Although technology is fantastic and has opened up so many opportunities for us, it also poses some significant challenges that you and your family are working through.  Thank you Hub parents for your patience, persistence and your positivity as you try to navigate a landscape and a learning methodology that is so very new to all of us.

Many of you have chosen to bring your children to school.  With the uncertainty of Covid, the restrictions and protocols in place and the possibility of having to keep your children at home for extended periods of time, you have found yourselves in a situation you have never had to live through.  I know that you are feeling the pressures of school, family and work and trying to figure out how to juggle all of the pieces and keep your families safe.  Thank you for being so diligent and following all of the safety measures in place while at the same time being exceptional parents, helping with homework and providing the needed support to your children.

School looks different this year but together we are finding ways to support our students and this great school.  Our School Council is meeting, organizing and planning for our students’ future.  On Oct. 6th at 5:30 you are all welcome to our on-line AGM.  Whether you are interested in holding a position on council or wanting your voice to be heard, we need you to be a part of PAC.  Please try to make some time on the 6th to join us.

As I talk to parents, students and staff the same theme returns over and over again.  Our wonderful school is still filled with hope, love and care.  We continue to reach for new opportunities and strive to ensure that each of our students are successful at school.  Thank you for being a part of this community.  Thank you for your positive contributions to our school.  Thank you for believing that together we will work through the challenges as we provide an exceptional learning environment for our students.

Sincerely,

DD
