Principal's Message

Remembrance Day 2020

I would like to share a few words with you today as I believe there is no day more important than November 11, Remembrance Day.
Given events across the globe and to the south of us, we are reminded every day that must never take our collective peace for granted.
Around the world, Canada is recognized as a world leader when it comes democracy, safety, diversity, tolerance, health, freedom and peace.  This didn't just happen my friends.  We got here on the backs of those who sacrificed so much as well as those who continue serve Canada in times of war and peace.  
Who were they?  Sometimes these soldiers were our Indigenous brothers and sisters and sometimes they were second or third generations Canadians.  Often they were recent immigrants fighting for a country that they only were just coming to know.  They did not fight as individuals.  Rather they were united in their sacrifice to make the world a better place for all of us.
Imagine, soldiers often just 18 years old (sometimes younger) sent off to the horrors of war.  Like our students, they had futures ahead of them.  In a moments notice, that gave all of that up so that Canada could be the beacon of freedom that it is today.
Think about that for a second.  Would we do the same?  Sacrifice so much for the good of future generations.  Thankfully, that is not being asked of us today.  Instead, we are being asked to take a moment today to really remember, think about and show gratitude to the heros that ensured our peace.
As your Principal, I have another ask of you.  Never take your world for granted.  Show gratitude and always lead with your heart.  You are not in a war, but every day, you have opportunities to choose between conflict and peace, between love and hate.  Always remember these sacrifices and do your part to make our community, country and world a better place.
