Admin Message - June 11, 2021

Dear New Brighton Families,
The energy in the building this week is a good indication that our students are getting ready for summer. Unfortunately, the weather did not always cooperate with us to get outside for recess or lunch a few days this week to burn off some of that energy. If we have light rain we do our best to make it outside for a break so knowing this please ensure your child has dressed appropriately for the weather. If the forecast holds true next week then rain should not be an issue, but hats and proper footwear will be important for outdoor PE class.
Our June virtue, the Love of Learning, is being lived in every classroom as our students remain engaged and excited about their activities and tasks. It is always a pleasure to welcome the smiling faces and heart-felt “good mornings" on supervision as students filter into the school each day. New Brighton continues to be a place our students want to come to every morning and actively participate in their learning. Our teachers continue to inspire and engage their students and we will be asking for families to participate in a school-wide project coming up next week. More information will be coming home Tuesday so check your email and google Classroom for updates.
AHS Rapid Testing – June 17th @ New Brighton School
We received notice that New Brighton School was selected as a site for AHS to conduct rapid testing/screening for COVID. All students are welcome to participate with participation being completely voluntary.
AHS staff will be at New Brighton on Thursdays, June 17, for the first round of testing, and then again approximately one week later to conduct a second test. The process requires 2 tests. Consent can be withdrawn at any time.
Attached to this message are an information sheet and a consent form for students under 18 years of age.
Should you chose to participate please complete the consent form and return it to your student's homeroom teacher. The links below provide information on the testing process and a permission form which was also sent home in hardcopy with your child.

Fun Lunch
Our final Little Caesars Fun Lunch will be Thursday, June 17th. The last day to order is Saturday, June 12 by midnight. If you are interested in having a pizza lunch for your child please make sure to get your order in by then. We are also having our final Kernels Popcorn snack day on June 24th with final orders due by June 19th at midnight. To order any of our Fun Lunches you need to set up an account online at https://healthyhunger.ca/ .
Last call for Yearbook Orders
We are taking orders for the current year's (2020/2021) Yearbooks. If you are interested in ordering a copy please log into your My CBE Account from the website, not the app and go into the Fees section. In the Fees section look for optional fees and there you should see the Yearbook. We will also be sending home a paper copy of an order form for those who prefer the traditional method. The cost of the Yearbook is $30 and it is important to get your orders in soon as we have sold out in the past.
Lost and Found
If your child is missing any personal belongings please check the Lost and Found pictures below for any items you might recognize and email the school at newbrighton@cbe.ab.ca to have the items returned to your child. Any unclaimed items will be sent to charity after June 25th.

Casino Update! June 18 and 19th
Dear New Brighton School Families,
The New Brighton Elementary Parent's Association (“NBEPA") is pleased to announce that the AGLC has awarded our association with June 18 and 19 casino dates at the Deerfoot Inn Casino. This is contingent on the Province announcing we are moving into Stage 2 of re-opening on June 10th or earlier, provided that all government requirements are met. This is an incredible opportunity for our association to secure funding for our school as needs arise. The funds raised from our casino event will provide New Brighton School with funding to replace technology that will be decommissioned this time next year. All the technology was purchased for the school opening, six years ago now, and is nearing the end of its lifecycle. We currently have over 180 devices that fit into this category that will need to be replaced: (1) 150 MacBooks with a replacement cost of $1300 per unit; and (2) 30 Acer laptops with a replacement cost of approximately $500 per unit. We are also hoping to purchase Home Reading materials that will support one of our school's development goals to improve literacy.
Due to COVID restrictions, we have a reduced number of shifts to be filled. We only need 20 VOLUNTEERS and back-ups for each shift. Each shift can raise up to $1,600 for our school. No knowledge of gambling is needed, and training is provided at the casino event. All family and friends over 18 years of age are eligible to volunteer. Volunteers can work more than one shift but cannot change positions. Please note that we cannot host this event if we do not have volunteers for each shift. If we do not have enough volunteers, we must forfeit the event.
We're using SignUp.com to organize our upcoming NBEPA Casino Fundraiser.
Here's how it works in 3 easy steps:
