Admin Message - September 17, 2021

Dear New Brighton families,

This was our first full, five-day week at NBS and it was a busy one. Unfortunately, we were greeted with no internet or phone lines first thing Tuesday morning but were able to have a technician out and get us back up and running before morning recess. Wednesday we had our first School Council meeting of the year, Thursday we had our first fire drill of the year and were very impressed with the student’s response to evacuating the building and remaining silent while outside.

The Alberta Government announced new restrictions on Wednesday that included some for schools. CBE Chief Superintendent Christopher Usih, sent a message to all parents that clarified the impact that this would have on CBE schools. I have reposted the pertinent information for our school from his message below.
The Calgary Board of Education has reviewed these new health measures. Our plan for the 2021-22 school year, shared with you on Aug. 18, 2021, already exceeds all the new government health measures, including:
mandatory masking for all students K-12 and all staff
 co-horting for elementary students K-6
work from home direction for non-school based staff
As part of the government direction, school boards continue to have the ability to implement measures that exceed provincial guidance. We will review our health measures plan to determine if any measures need to be strengthened to further protect students and staff. Key areas to be reviewed include, but is not limited to, the presence of scheduled volunteers, guests and partners in schools and off-site activities/field trips.
We will continue to notify families of self-reported cases within schools and support AHS with outbreak notifications and investigations.
This situation is evolving. We will continue to review and adjust our practices based on new information. Any adjustments will consider further direction from the Chief Medical Officer of Health, Alberta Education, attendance rates at schools and existing active case counts in the Calgary Zone.

Lost and Found
Every Friday in my Admin Message there will be pictures of our lost and found items. If you see an item that belongs to your child please email the school at newbrighton@cbe.ab.ca with the subject Lost and Found. Once we hear from you, the item will be delivered to your child’s classroom. The best way to avoid this is to make sure you label all your child’s belongings.

Sincerely,
Patrick Murphy
